摘要
通过研究设计和文本分析的方法,考察非英语专业学生作文中元话语手段的使用情况及其与作文质量之间的关系。结果发现较好组和较差组作文中所使用的元话语在数量、质量和类型上有差异。篇章元话语与非英语专业学生作文质量呈显著性相关,人际元话语几乎不会影响作文质量。
This article explores the relationship between the meta-discourse and writing quality in non-English majors' compositions through examining the use of meta-discourse devices with longitudinal design and textual analysis. It is found that differences exist in the quantity, quality and types of the meta-discourse used between the better and poorer groups of compositions. In general, textual meta-discourse correlates positively and significantly with writing quality, while interpersonal meta-discourse does not.
