Compared with the Chinatown narratives in the other Chinese American novels,Louis Chu's Eat a Bowl of Tea is considered as the classic which truely portrays the Chinese American community in the 1940s with the most authentic'Asian American sensibility'.Through studying the turmoil and challenges the New York Chinatown confronts at the transitional point from the'bachelor'society to the family society, this article reveals the degeneration and distortion of the'patriarchal'society of Chinatown under the pressure of the mainstream American society.
