Among Pinter's early works The Hothouse is outstanding for its strong political color, which embodies his hatred for institutionalism and total- itarianism, expresses his worry about the future of mankind, and condemns in metaphorical terms the killing by the Nazis of millions of Jews during the Sec- ond World War.By investigating the cause for the delay of the production of the play, this essay tries to illuminate Pinter's different attitudes towards poli- tics in his early and late stages. It also tries to show the importance of The Hothouse to the study of the relationship between Pinter and politics.
