The Lalachang copper deposit,one of important copper deposits in China,is situated on the western margin in the middle part of the Kang Dian axis,and confined to the Palaeoproterozoic Hekou Group(1700—2000Ma) which may be divided,in ascending stratigraphic order,into the Dayunshan,Luodang and Changchong Formations.The Luodang copper orebody as the major orebody is hosted in the cataclastic mylonitized albitic rocks and metamorphic altered(metasomatic)rocks in the third member of the upper Luodang Formation. Collectively,the orebodies are irregular stratoid and lenticular as well as expanded,contracted,offseted and combined.The modes of occurrence for the orebodies are in general agreement with the schistosity of the rocks,trending NWW or nearly EW.The larger orebodies tend to occur,along the trend or strike,in distinct lithologies.The Lalachang copper deposit has experienced three stages of mineralization.(1)The source beds resulted from the submarine volcanic eruption during the Palaeoproterozoic (spilite keratophyre rock series)and intrusion of subvolcanic albitic rocks.(2)The ductile brittle shear deformation and regional metamorphism of the source beds(spilite keratophyre albitic rocks)are responsible for the formation of cataclastic rocks mylonite and metamorphic hydrothermal solution.(3)In the hydrothermal filling and replacement and sulfide emplacement stage,metamorphic hydrothermal solution,underground thermal water and magmatic hydrothermal solution infiltrated and replaced along the cataclastic structures and sheared foliation,and finally the Lalachang copper deposit was formed.
