he Liang zhou township situated at the east end of the Hexi Carridor.Buddhist re-ligion had been very popular in the Liangzhou area before the Former Liang period.it natonly trained many Buddhist monks whe were good at translation of Buddhist Scripturesand preaching Buddhist doctrine,but also brought up emerpers such as Ju-qu-meng-xunwho believed in Buddhism very much.He had the place for translation of Buddhist Scrip-ture set up;Buddhist sutras translated and many grattoes carved.The grand Buddhistmonks gathered in Liangzhou and Liangzhou became Buddhist center in north China.Though Ju-qu-meng-xun believed in Buddhism.as the grand monk Dao shi said that hehad not profaundly known what Buddhism meant.He also believed in Taoism and wor-shiped Queen Mother of the west.At the same time,he put Confucian scholars such asSong Yao,Liu Bing and Zhang Zhan in an important pasition.So that under his ruile,theNorthern Liang which was encircled by great enemy on all sides could exist and develop.In fact,Ju-qu-meng-xun even more believed in Confucianism and carried out the tradi-tional Confucian line.
