Abstract The paper consists of three parts: 1. an account of the achievements of the studies on Saussure:the publications of Saussure's manuscripts and the critique edition of his book A Course in General Linguistic; 2. an analysis of his relation with the new grammatical schools according to his own recollections; 3. a probe into Saussure's linguistic views based on the newly published materials.
