(一) 一位真正伟大的历史人物,无论在其生前还是身后,往往总是探究目光集注的对象。人们会从不同的立场和角度加以审察评论,从而得到种种不同的结论。但是,正如黑格尔所说,作为“世界历史个人”的伟大人物对此是不会有许多顾虑的,“他毫无顾忌地专心致力于‘一个目的’。他们可以不很重视其他伟大的、甚或神圣的利益。”
We are here given an analytical account of the comments made by amultitude of Chinese scholars and public figures on the satyagraha campaignslaunched and led by the Mahatma in the early 1920s and subsequently betweenthe late 1920s and the early 1930s——comments that have been quotedexclusively from scores of articles published in Dongfang Zazhi (OrientalMagazine),a contemporary Chinese periodical of great popularity among Chineseintellectuls of those days.
