Abstract Every water conservancy project of strategic importance plays quite a great motive role in the local economy, urban construction and tourism development. And accordingly, the author holds that the development of the city of Yichang should,based on the hydro electricity construction,take the tourist industry as the pilar of its economy and strive to build the city into an international tourist one at the beginning of the next century. The author analyses the three advantageous conditions of the city: 1 It is rich in tourist resources with special features; 2 Its tourist spots enjoy great renown and have monopoly nature; 3 With its favorable geological location, its tourist industry has a unique regional position. Finally,the article raises three ideas or suggestions of strategic importance for the construction of Yichang into an international tourist city.
