摘要 A cellar used for storing ancient bronze coins was discovered at Mahecun village in Xunxian county in August of 1980 and more than 400kg. coins of different periods were unearthed from it. The coins included almost 70 kinds from banliang of the fifth year of the Wendi’s reign (175B. C. ) of the Western Han Dynasty to dading tongbao of the 18th year of the reign of Shizong (1178) of the Jin Dynasty. It is believed that the cellar was made in the Jing Dynasty. The reason for so many coin cellars discovered from the Jing Dynasty is that, according to the author, the paper money replaced the bronze coins so more and more coins may have been collected and stored up.
