AbstractThe aim of this paper is to explore the relationships between syntax,semantics and pragmatics.For this purpose,the author first presents Morris's classical distinction between them,pointing out that the way in which Morris's distinction is worded has a consequence that all linguistic problems can be dealt with either syntactically,or semantically,or pragmatically.Based on his observation of linguistic facts,the author finally argues that syntax,semantics and pragmatics are in fact interdependent and interrelative,and that it is of no use and of no help to draw a hard line between the three disciplines.
