his article argues that though the Chinese feudal society was a hierarchical society,it was in essence still a class society.Common landlords and the feudal state shared basic common interests despite conflicts between them.Common landlords and official landlords had the same status in the socioeconomic structure and they both belonged to the ruling class.They usually united to exploit and suppress the peasant class ruthlessly.The contradiction between the landlord class and the peasant class was the basic contradiction in the feudal society of China.
