Located in the north of Zhejiang, this site of the Liangzhu culture underwent three
seasons of excavation done by the Chinese and Japanese archaeologists in 1995, 1996 and
1997 respectively. The excavation sheds much light on the structure and evolution of the
grave mound, provides new materials concerning the structure, burial manner, funerary fur-
nitrue and the way the tomb was sealed up. It also brings to light the well-preserved house
foundation, thus counterbalancing the shortage of architectural data in the cultures of the
same perirod. This, together with the related surface remains, composes a picture of the set-
tlement in the excavated area, which can serve as a reference for the contemproary settle-
ments. The site is important for the understanding of the transition from the Songze to
Liangzhu culture,as the typological study shows an affinity between the early objects and
those of the late Songze culture, and between late objects and those from the Liangzhu
tombs at Fanshan and Yaoshan.
