Future applications of terahertz radiation (T-rays) in medicine

摘要 太赫兹辐射(T射线)是电磁光谱研究中最前沿的领域。此射线是波段位于微波与红外线之间的电磁辐射区域,以前未充分利用,现在人们意识到要研制小型固态发射器及检测器用于产生和检测太赫磁波。过去10年,相干宽带太赫兹光束的生产有了很大的进展。科学界对于T射线用途的认识越来越深,它的潜在应用范围非常广,特别是在生物医学领域。该文回顾了T射线的历史发展背景及产生和检测方法,并探讨了其在医学和制药学中的应用。 Terahertz radiation is the latest frontier in the electromagnetic spectrum. The race is on to build compact solid-state emitters and detectors for the underutilized part between the microwave and the infrared regions. In the past decade we have seen significant advances in the production of coherent broad-band Terahertz beams. The growing awareness of T-rays' usefulness is like what happened 100 years ago with X-rays-only T-rays will have a much wider range of applications. Terahertz waves have a range of potential applications, especially in biomedicine. Historical background and ways to generate and detect T -rays are reviewed, and early medical and pharmaceutical applications are also discussed. Terahertz technology is now becoming a practical proposition.
