The paper reviews the literature on the structural dimension of code-switching in the past thirty years. Directing attention first to early publications on grammatical constraints on code-switching, the review then takes a close look at how other issues central to the topic have been addressed. It concludes with a discussion on the current trends in this specialized area of inquiry.
