摘要
《异乡》是新世纪的问题小说。作品最本质的问题是“异”字。伴随着全球化、现代化进程,大都市不再是人们理想的、更不可能是诗意的憩居地,城市的功能在发生变化,城市的一切出现变异。这种变异的城市结构、城市程序、城市生活却恰恰是现代人经常挂在嘴角、津津乐道的都市文明或现代文明。虽然大都市享有光荣与梦想,但在都市的角落有可能潜存着污垢和罪恶。因此,是文明还是堕落?让人们充满了疑惑。
A Foreign Land, a novel of problems in the new century, touches upon some critical issues in the present society in spite of its short length, and what is the most essential is the character 'strangeness' in the novel. With the process of globalization and modernization, the cosmopolitan is no longer an ideal, much less poetic place of rest, for the functions of a city are changing and every aspect of a city is experiencing variations; but this kind of varied urban structure, urban procedure and urban life are just the urban or modern civilization often dwelt upon with great relish by modern people. Despite its glory and dreams, a cosmopolitan may probably embrace filth and evil in its corners. Therefore, whether it is civilization or degeneration people harbor great doubts about.
