摘要
在"垮掉一代"的文学中,杰克·凯鲁亚克的小说《在路上》为比较重要的作品。这部作品有两个并存的主题:一个是显性的,即表面的绝望;另一个是隐性的,即深层的希望。但是,在阅读和评论这部作品时,我们往往囿于"垮掉"所暗示的消极因素,从而忽视了被遮蔽的希望主题。其实,该作品在表面的绝望下面隐藏着热切的希望和坚定的信念。宗教追寻母题的使用使作品具有了更厚重的文化意义。
Among the literary works by the Beat Generation,On the Road by Jack Kerouac is rather a significant one.This novel has two juxtaposing topics,one is the outward hopelessness which is overt,and the other is the hopefulness in the depth which is concealed.However,in reading and reviewing this work,efforts are always made confined to the negative factors suggested by the 'Beat',while the concealed topic of hopefulness is always neglected.In fact,the keen hopefulness and firm belief are just what is stored up under the outward hopelessness.
