摘要
华裔作家黄哲伦的《蝴蝶君》的现实意义在于它解构了西方对东方的东方主义式的想像与定位,这一点批评界普遍认同,但认同的途径多是通过平面的理论运用,主要是把剧本中的某些情节与话语结合萨义德的东方主义理论的要义来阐释。这种平面化的读解方式往往理念先行,失之笼统。本文力图从更感性的角度来理解作者的解构策略,并落实于"性别认同"和"民族政治"这两股暗线。这两条线隐藏于作品的文字的背后,但却更能发人深省,而且同样强有力地通向民族政治的宏大主题。
WhattheChineseAmericanwriterDavidHenryHwanghasachievedinhis M.Butterfly is that it deconstructs the Orientalist fantasies and stereotypes in the Occidental minds.This has been a widely acknowledged literary criticism,yet many approached it merely by applying various theories superficially.AsinthecaseofM.Butterfly,itisnotuncommonthatEdwardSaid'stheoryofOrientalismis usually brought in to account for the scenes and discourses.In this way of interpretation,one is preoccupied with a set of concepts,thus deterred from attaining to in depth and comprehensive understanding.This essay purports to elucidate the author's strategies of deconstruction in clarifying the two facets of 'Gender Identity' and 'the Politics of Ethnicity' and eventually leading them to an inspiringandforcefulfacade.
