Both of Japan and China were forced to receive the Western culture, but they walked on different roads of modernization respectively. Japan had wiped away its rotten influences in its WuChen revolution and established a new regime. They made great efforts to improving themselves, consequently emerged rapidly a s a power. In China, although the Heavenly Kingdom wars had heavily shocked the rotten rulers and led to some reorganizations in the regime, but no new type of regime had been established at that time. The old influences were still powerful. Consequently China had made insufficient effort to the Westernization Movement, which resulted in the slow social and economic development in modern China. So we can say the real fundamental reason for modern Japan's growing faster than China in later Qing Dynasty is it had a revolution
