摘要
Researches done in the field of speech act theory have thrown light on the development and formation of communicative competence in the learning and teaching of foreign languages. As foreign language teachers, we can draw some revelations from the theory. It seems to us that we are obliged to use the theory to guide our teaching though it is not without its drawbacks.
