Everyday Use,one of American black woman writer Alice Walker's short stories, successfully describes African-Americans' puzzlement of sentiment and value in the late 60's and early 70's of the last century and at the same time serves as a profound and convincing interpretation of the writer's view on ethnical cultural identity: the cultural identity of American Black people is dually characterized.Black culture is just a mixture of African culture and American culture. It is an undue practice to dissever the two or be beset by prejudice.Only by organically mingling the two can American black people truly establish and protect their cultural identity.
