摘要
曼斯菲尔德研究长久以来一直集中于现代主义叙事技巧或女性主义抗争,忽视了其作品中所蕴藏的社会学主题。本文认为,曼斯菲尔德的文学创作通过描摹中产阶级社会戏剧,揭示了社会权力机制的仪式操演、个体在这一仪式过程中的情感异化、以及最终实现的精神顿悟。这三个主题分别体现了曼斯菲尔德作为中产阶级女性、现代边缘人和现实主义者对于现代生活的感受和探问。
Katherine Mansfield’s literary creation has been for long considered a perfect example of modernist narrative technique or feminist rebellion,and few scholars have paid attention to its sociological themes.This essay argues that deep in Mansfield’s literary works are her concern for middle-class"social drama"—the ritualistic practice of social power,marginalized individuals’emotional alienation,and their final epiphany of the"truth."These three themes respectively reflect Mansfield’s feeling toward modern life as a middle-class woman,a marginalized modernist,and a realist.
