The Qiuci art of Buddhist statues is deeply influenced by Greek art in the sense that the facial features show deep eyes and high-bridged noses and that the almond-shaped eyes bear strong occidental characteristics. The emergence of such phoenix eyes on 3-4th century Qiuci Buddhist statues triggered a series of modulations in the shape of the eyes.Through continuous adjustment, the phoenix-eye feature of Qiuci Buddhist statues had almost become aesthetically identical to that of the Han region by the 7th century and the deepeye and high-nose features had also disappeared. The emergence of such phoenix eyes on Qiuci Buddhist statues and the formation of such aesthetic pursuit are closely related to the westward migration of the Han people, the strong political and cultural influence of the Han domain, and the specific practice of formative arts..
