Identity and geographical relationship are two key themes in Haruki Murakami’s novel,Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Year of Pilgrimage, which are of great significance to the interpretation of the text.Taking Nagoya,Tokyo and Finland as examples, this paper analyzes the complex relationship between identity and geopolitical relations in the text, focusing on the life experiences of the five members of the"community".This leads to the following two conclusions.Firstly, the interpersonal relationships in the"community"symbolize the stable, solid and inherently closed social relations of traditional Japanese society, while the collapse of the"community"symbolises the inevitable end of traditional Japanese social relations.Secondly,in order to resolve the identity dilemma caused by the inevitable demise of traditional society, the Japanese people must return to reality and correctly understand their relationship with the outside world.
