This article is based on Matsuura Rieko’s work Obesity Phobia.By taking the metaphor of disease and the background into consideration, this work intends to explore the metaphorical meaning behind obesity.Obesity in the novel has a metaphorical meaning of elimination, and behind it implies the political metaphor of state power to control the individual’s body. The process of the formation, development and cure of the new type of mental illness,"obesity phobia"is not only a discussion of the causes of obesity as a metaphor for disease, but also a metaphor for the elimination of disease. It is an attempt of returning to disease and physical experience itself. This allows people to examine and accept the value of the individual’s existence and achieve the goal of respecting individual power.
