摘要
我写过三部人物传记,传主都是文化人,对这类传记的写作,有不少的心得。在传主的选择上,我认为应当选择那些个人成就突出,又对推动社会进步起过相当作用的人士,质言之,要选值得写的人写。传主选不好,吭哧吭哧写了半天,最后落个一同消沉在历史的长河里,就不合算了。较之传主的选择,材料的挖掘更为重要。传主一旦选定,就要舍得花钱,舍得下大力气,力争写成一部让后人敬重的作品。具体做法上,还是应当遵从古代乃至近代先贤的做法,就是要先编年谱,再写传记。材料的挖掘,不光指多方搜集,还应当包括对已有材料的深入的分析,找出事件之间的联系,甚至发现方案背后隐秘的东西。这样才能写出精密而又厚重的传记作品。
I have completed three biographies on cultural figures,so I have some ideas on this subgenre of biography.Only those with remarkable achievement and contribution to the social progress can be selected as biographical subjects for they are worth a biography.Otherwise the biography will perish over time regardless of all the efforts of the biographer.In comparison with the selection of biographical subjects,however,the exploration of materials is more important.Once the subject is determined,both money and energy are necessary to produce a respectable work.Specifically speaking,the approach of ancient and modern eminent biographers should be followed,i.e.writing a chronicle before a biography.The exploration process includes not only the collection of but also an indepth analysis of the materials to find the association between events and even identify the covert cues.Only in this way can excellent and detailed biography be produced.
