The micro-hydropower has the technical capability of providing electricity to rural areas in Manica or other isolated place in Mozambique in currently not yet supplied with EDM (Mozambicam electricity Supply Company). Associated that, today more than 12 million of Mozambicans live below the poverty line including in non-electrified areas and most of these populations are rural people. The stochastic ARMA model and Neural Wavelet was built and fitted from the historical 49 years of hydrology predictions. The flow duration curve was plotted based on flow data with objective to find power potential that was 76.8 Kw. 展开更多

Logistic Regression Models have been widely used in many areas of research, namely in health sciences, to study risk factors associated to diseases. Many population based surveys, such as Demographic and Health Survey (DHS), are constructed assuming complex sampling, i.e., probabilistic, stratified and multistage sampling, with unequal weights in the observations;this complex design must be taken into account in order to have reliable results. However, this very relevant issue usually is not well analyzed in the literature. The aim of the study is to specify the logistic regression model with complex sample design, and to demonstrate how to estimate it using the R software survey package. More specifically, we used Mozambique Demographic Health and Survey data 2011 (MDHS 2011) to illustrate how to correct for the effect of sample design in the particular case of estimating the risk factors associated to the probability of using mosquito bed nets. Our results show that in the presence of complex sampling, appropriate methods must be used both in descriptive and inferential statistics. 展开更多

The present study aimed to evaluate the hygiene practices and the quality of meat sold in butcheries in the city of Nampula,Mozambique.Of the twelve butcheries in the city, only seven participated in the study, which was divided into four categories:hygienic conditions of buildings and facilities, equipment, furniture and utensils, good handling practices for handlers, and microbiological quality of meat products. Results showed that most of the butcheries(71%)had poor hygiene conditions, such as walls with cracks and holes and lack of washbasins in the production area.In addition, the majority(71%)of butcheries used a reusable dirty cloth to clean equipment and utensils, and only 43%had a cold room or refrigerated chamber for meat conservation.Regarding personal hygiene,100%of the handlers washed and changed their clothes daily, but 71%did not properly wash their hands before handling food.Microbiological analysis revealed that 86%of the cutting tables swabs and 43%of the hand blades had E.coli counts above 4 Log,and the presence of Salmonella was observed in 71%of meat samples.Overall, the study highlights the need for improvement in hygiene practices and the quality of meat sold in butcheries in Nampula. 展开更多

Limestone has been used as a partial substitute for cement, due to its beneficial effect on mechanical properties of mortars and concretes. In the present research, we studied the effect of the mineralogical composition in mortars produced from limestone samples collected in different areas of Mozambique, using two cement types (Portland cement 32.5N and 42.5N). Additions of 10 to 25% limestone gave, in general and for the 32.5N cement, good results of the compressive strength for all limestone samples, while for the 42.5N only the Massinga samples performed well. Effect of the limestone additions on the flexural strength showed a beneficial effect for all samples and at all compositions studied, when using the 42.5N cement, while for the 32.5N cement only additions of 10% limestone gave values of the flexural strength higher than the reference material, with the exception of the Magude samples. 展开更多
