Background:The 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV)causing an outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan,Hubei province of China was isolated in January 2020.This study aims to investigate its epidemiologic history,and analyze the clinical characteristics,treatment regimens,and prognosis of patients infected with 2019-nCoV during this outbreak.Methods:Clinical data from 1372019-nCoV-infected patients admitted to the respiratory departments of nine tertiary hospitals in Hubei province from December 30,2019 to January 24,2020 were retrospectively collected,including general status,clinical manifestations,laboratory test results,imaging characteristics,and treatment regimens.Results:None of the 137 patients(61 males,76 females,aged 20-83 years,median age 57 years)had a definite history of exposure to Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market.Major initial symptoms included fever(112/137,81.8%),coughing(66/137,48.2%),and muscle pain or fatigue(44/137,32.1%),with other,less typical initial symptoms observed at low frequency,including heart palpitations,diarrhea,and headache.Nearly 80%of the patients had normal or decreased white blood cell counts,and 72.3%(99/137)had lymphocytopenia.Lung involvement was present in all cases,with most chest computed tomography scans showing lesions in multiple lung lobes,some of which were dense;ground-glass opacity co-existed with consolidation shadows or cord-like shadows.Given the lack of effective drugs,treatment focused on symptomatic and respiratory support.Immunoglobulin G was delivered to some critically ill patients according to their conditions.Systemic corticosteroid treatment did not show significant benefits.Notably,early respiratory support facilitated disease recovery and improved prognosis.The risk of death was primarily associated with age,underlying chronic diseases,and median interval from the appearance of initial symptoms to dyspnea.Conclusions:The majority of patients with 2019-nCoV pneumonia present with fever as the first symptom,and most of them still showed typical manifestations of v 展开更多

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection can cause acute respiratory distress syndrome,hypercoagulability,hypertension,and multiorgan dysfunction.Effective antivirals with safe clinical profile are urgently needed to improve the overall prognosis.In an analysis of a randomly collected cohort of 124 patients with COVID-19,we found that hypercoagulability as indicated by elevated concentrations of D-dimers was associated with disease severity.By virtual screening of a U.S.FDA approved drug library,we identified an anticoagulation agent dipyridamole(DIP)in silico,which suppressed SARS-CoV-2 replication in vitro.In a proof-of-concept trial involving 31 patients with COVID-19,DIP supplementation was associated with significantly decreased concentrations of D-dimers(P<0.05),increased lymphocyte and platelet recovery in the circulation,and markedly improved clinical outcomes in comparison to the control patients.In particular,all 8 of the DIP-treated severely ill patients showed remarkable improvement:7 patients(87.5%)achieved clinical cure and were discharged from the hospitals while the remaining 1 patient(12.5%)was in clinical remission. 展开更多

The effect of ginsenoside Rb 1 on cardiomyocyte apotosis after ischemia (30 min ) and reperfusion (6 h) in rats was observed. The ischemia/ reperfusion heart mo del was established by ligating left anterior descending branch of coronary arte ry in Wistar rats. The apoptotic cardiomyocytes were examined under transmission electron microscopy and counted by in situ nick end labeling (TUNEL) method and light microscopy. Results showed that (1) The apoptotic cardiomyocytes were found in ischemic regions in the ischemia/reperfusion group, but not in the sh am oper ating group under transmission electron microscopy; (2) The number of apoptotic cells were 134.45±45.61/field in the ischemia/reperfusion group, 0/field in the sham operating group and 51.65±13.71/field in the ginsenoside Rb 1 treated group. The differences were significant among the three groups ( P <0.01). It was concluded that myocardial ischemia reperfusion could induce cardiomyocyte a poptosis, and ginsenoside Rb 1 could significantly inhibit cardiomyocyte apopto sis induced by ischemia reperfusion in rats, indicating that ginsenoside Rb 1 could inhibit cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by ischemia reperfusion, thus alleviating ischemia reperfusion injury. 展开更多

Disaster-resilient dams require accurate crack detection,but machine learning methods cannot capture dam structural reaction temporal patterns and dependencies.This research uses deep learning,convolutional neural networks,and transfer learning to improve dam crack detection.Twelve deep-learning models are trained on 192 crack images.This research aims to provide up-to-date detecting techniques to solve dam crack problems.The finding shows that the EfficientNetB0 model performed better than others in classifying borehole concrete crack surface tiles and normal(undamaged)surface tiles with 91%accuracy.The study’s pre-trained designs help to identify and to determine the specific locations of cracks. 展开更多

Developing a simple scalable method to fabricate electrodes with high capacity and wide voltage range is desired for the real use of electrochemical supercapacitors.Herein,we synthesized amorphous NiCo-LDH nanosheets vertically aligned on activated carbon cloth substrate,which was in situ transformed from Co-metal-organic framework materials nano-columns by a simple ion exchange process at room temperature.Due to the amorphous and vertically aligned ultrathin structure of NiCo-LDH,the NiCo-LDH/activated carbon cloth composites present high areal capacities of 3770 and 1480 mF cm^(-2)as cathode and anode at 2 mA cm^(-2),and 79.5%and 80%capacity have been preserved at 50 mA cm^(-2).In the meantime,they all showed excellent cycling performance with negligible change after>10000 cycles.By fabricating them into an asymmetric supercapacitor,the device achieves high energy densities(5.61 mWh cm^(-2)and 0.352 mW cm^(-3)).This work provides an innovative strategy for simplifying the design of supercapacitors as well as providing a new understanding of improving the rate capabilities/cycling stability of NiCo-LDH materials. 展开更多

Image classification and unsupervised image segmentation can be achieved using the Gaussian mixture model.Although the Gaussian mixture model enhances the flexibility of image segmentation,it does not reflect spatial information and is sensitive to the segmentation parameter.In this study,we first present an efficient algorithm that incorporates spatial information into the Gaussian mixture model(GMM)without parameter estimation.The proposed model highlights the residual region with considerable information and constructs color saliency.Second,we incorporate the content-based color saliency as spatial information in the Gaussian mixture model.The segmentation is performed by clustering each pixel into an appropriate component according to the expectation maximization and maximum criteria.Finally,the random color histogram assigns a unique color to each cluster and creates an attractive color by default for segmentation.A random color histogram serves as an effective tool for data visualization and is instrumental in the creation of generative art,facilitating both analytical and aesthetic objectives.For experiments,we have used the Berkeley segmentation dataset BSDS-500 and Microsoft Research in Cambridge dataset.In the study,the proposed model showcases notable advancements in unsupervised image segmentation,with probabilistic rand index(PRI)values reaching 0.80,BDE scores as low as 12.25 and 12.02,compactness variations at 0.59 and 0.7,and variation of information(VI)reduced to 2.0 and 1.49 for the BSDS-500 and MSRC datasets,respectively,outperforming current leading-edge methods and yielding more precise segmentations. 展开更多

Methods: Based on the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) evidence-based health care model, the best evidence of airway management in adult critically ill patients was obtained and applied to the clinic. Results: The total implementation rate of airway management measures in adult critically ill patients increased from 23.62% before the implementation of quality control circle to 88.82%, and the pulmonary infection rate in critically ill patients decreased from 42.31% to 21.74%, with statistical significance between the two groups (P 0.05). Conclusion: Evidence-based quality control circle activities can standardize the practice standards of airway management in critically ill patients, reduce the occurrence of patients’ airway related complications, and improve clinical outcomes. 展开更多

The reactive oxygen species(ROS) are tightly associated with endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress.Thus,the deep and visual insight of aberrant ROS fluctuations in the ER can help us better investigate the ER stress-associated pathology.In this work,a fluorescent probe ERC for HOCI detection in the ER based on phenothiazine-derived coumarin platform was developed.In the presence of HOCI,ERC exhibited an emission change from 609 nm to 503 nm within seconds.It also showed high sensitivity(0.44 μmol/L)and superb photostability.Significantly,ERC displayed low cytotoxicity,good cell membrane permeability,and appreciable ER-targetability.Ultimately,the probe was successfully utilized to image exogenous and endogenous HOCl in living cells and reveal the HOCI burst in cisplatin-treated cancer cells. 展开更多

Efficacy of early lifestyle intervention on metabolic syndrome

Objective Intensive lifestyle intervention significantly reduces the progression to diabetes in high-risk individuals. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of early lifestyle intervention on high-risk groups of metabolic syndrome. Methods In a two-arm randomized controlled 1-year trial, we compared the effectiveness of a general recommendation-based program of lifestyle intervention carded out by wained professionals versus standard unstructured information given by physicians at reducing the prevalence of multiple metabolic and inflammatory abnormalities in 306 adults aged 45-64 years in Xiaogan city, China. Results At baseline, clinical/ anthropometric/laboratory and lifestyle characteristics of the intervention (n= 153 ) and control (n= 153) groups were not significantly different. The former significantly reduced total/saturated fat intake and increased polyunsaturated fat/fiber intake and exercise level compared to the controls. Weight, waist circumference, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and most of the metabolic syndrome components decreased in the intervention group and increased in the controls after 12 months. Lifestyle intervention significantly reduced metabolic syndrome (OR=0.28; 95% CI 0.18-0.44), with a 31% (95% C121-41) absolute risk reduction, corresponding to 3.2 (95% CI, 2-5) patients needing to be treated to prevent 1 case after 12 months. The intervention significantly reduced the prevalence of central obesity (OR=0.33; 95% CI, 0.20-0.56), and hypertriglyceridemia (OR=0.48; 95% CI, 0.31-0.75) and the incidence of diabetes (OR=0.23; 95% CI, 0.06-0.85). Conclusions A lifestyle intervention based on general recommendations was effective in reducing multiple metabolic/inflammatory abnormalities. The usual care by clinical physicians was ineffective at modifying progressive metabolic deterioration in high-risk individuals (J Geriatr Cardio12010; 7:10-16). 展开更多

To meet the requirement of high tracking angular accuracy for the acquisition, tracking, and pointing (ATP) subsystem of the free-space optical communication, and provide the basis for the further optical communication between maritime mobile platforms, the experimental system, which executing part for the fine tracking is voice coil motor with high frequency and good performance for error compensation, is established, and the whole system can be controlled by personal computer. A series of experiments has been done for the simulation target of different uniform speed, and the data of tracking error for fine tracking and coarse tracking are collected, analyzed and evaluateds separately, and the real-time optical power of communication laser is also collected. The result shows that standard deviation for ATP system tracking error increases with the increase of target speed, while the range of tracking error appears to be no order. Sheath blight disease (ShB) has a severe impact on the production of rice. ABI3/VP1-like 1(RAVL1) negatively regulated the rice defense mechanism against ShB, however, this regulatorymechanism is not clearly understood. In this study, we identified that indeterminate domain 3 (IDD3) waspositively regulated by RAVL1. Further, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay, yeast one-hybridassay and transient expression assay indicated a direct binding between RAVL1 and the IDD3 promoterregion. IDD3 was ubiquitously expressed in different tissues and at different stages, and its expressionwas significantly enhanced by Rhizoctonia solani infection. IDD3 exhibited transcription activation activityin yeast and IDD3-GFP was found to be localized in the nucleus. IDD3 mutants exhibited no significantdifferences in response to ShB, while IDD3 overexpressors were more susceptible to ShB compared withwild type (WT) plants. Furthermore, IDD3 repressors were less susceptible to R. solani than WT plants.Interestingly, the expression of brassinosteroid-related genes (D2, D11 and BRI1) was lower in IDD3repressors and higher in IDD3 overexpressors compared with WT. However, the ChIP assay revealedthat IDD3 did not directly bind to the D2 and D11 promoters. Overexpression of IDD3 in BRI1 mutantd61-1 inhibited the activity of IDD3, reducing its susceptibility to ShB compared with IDD3 overexpressorand WT plants, indicating that IDD3 negatively regulated the rice defense mechanism against ShB by activatingthe BR signaling pathway. Thus, our analyses provided information to enhance the understanding of therice defense mechanism against ShB. 展开更多

To investigate the role of signaling pathway in the effect of endoplasmic reticulum stress(ER stress) in endothelial cells stimulated with cigarette smoke extract(CSE). Human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) were cultured and divided into 3 groups: CSE-stimulated group, CSE-stimulated with 4-PBA group, and negative control group. HUVECs were cultured and stimulated with CSE at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20%, respectively, mR NA of CXCL-8 and GRP78 was detected by real-time PCR. ELISA was performed to test the expression of CXCL-8 protein, and neutrophils migration was detected by Transwell board test. The NF-κB, ERK, p38 MAPK and transforming growth factor beta(TGF-β) were detected by flow cytometry. The mRNA of CXCL-8 and GRP78 increased in CSE-stimulated HUVECs(P〈0.05). The TGF-β, rather than the NF-κB, ERK and P38 MAPK pathway might be involved in ER stress stimulated by CSE. CSE induced neutrophils migration by increasing the expression of CXCL-8 in endothelial cells. ER stress might play a role in the effect of neutrophils migration stimulated with CSE, and TGF-β pathway may contribute to the ER stress in HUVECs. 展开更多

Quantitative dynamics and viability of a rare and wild Cycas fairylakea population were studied with a time-specific life table, a Leslie matrix model and a survival function in order to provide scientific guidance for its protection. The results of the time- specific life table show that this C. fairylakea population suffered a high death rate in three age classes, i.e., age class 1 (0-15 years), V (61-75 years) and VI (76-90 years). The Leslie matrix model suggests that the number of plants would decline from the present 1613 to 59 per hectare in 150 years. Furthermore, the viability analysis indicates that seedlings have the highest mortality density rate and that middle-aged plants (i.e., 61-75 years, 76-90 years) have high mortality density rate and hazard rate. These conditions affect natural regeneration of the population and lead to a lack of seedlings which in turn causes the extinction of the population. An in situ conservation of the population should be established and protection measures taken as soon as possible. 展开更多

The complex of dysprosium chloride with glycine and L-tyrosine, Dy(Tyr)(Gly)3Cl3·3H2O, was synthesized and characterized. The standard molar formation enthalpy of Dy(Tyr)(Gly)3Cl3·3H2O at T=298.15 K was determined to be (-4287.10±2.14) kJ/mol. The kinetics of thermal decomposition of the complex was studied by non-isothermal TG-DTG curves. The kinetic parameters and mechanism function of the thermal decomposition reaction for its second step were proposed. The kinetic equation could be expressed as;dα/dT=3.14×10^20 s^-1/βexp(-209.37 kJ·mol^-1/RT)(1 - α)^2. 展开更多

We theoretically investigate the high-order harmonic generation from stretched molecules in a linearly polarized intense field. By adopting an infrared pulse combined with an ultraviolet (UV) attosecond pulse, the ionization process can be controlled effectively. In this excitation scheme, the harmonic spectrum beyond Ip + 3.17Up is significantly enhanced by two orders, where Ip and Up = e^2E0^2/(4mew^2) are the ionization and ponderomotive potential, then smooth broadband supercontinuum with the bandwidth of about 120 eV is obtained, which leads to an isolated sub-60- as attosecond pulse with a high signal-noise ratio. Moreover, the bandwidth of the supercontinuum is weakly dependent on the location and pulse duration of the UV pulse. 展开更多
