Optimization of Reliability–Redundancy Allocation Problems: A Review of the Evolutionary Algorithms 被引量:1

The study of optimization methods for reliability–redundancy allocation problems is a constantly changing field.New algorithms are continually being designed on the basis of observations of nature,wildlife,and humanity.In this paper,we review eight major evolutionary algorithms that emulate the behavior of civilization,ants,bees,fishes,and birds(i.e.,genetic algorithms,bee colony optimization,simulated annealing,particle swarm optimization,biogeography-based optimization,artificial immune system optimization,cuckoo algorithm and imperialist competitive algorithm).We evaluate the mathematical formulations and pseudo-codes of each algorithm and discuss how these apply to reliability–redundancy allocation problems.Results from a literature survey show the best results found for series,series–parallel,bridge,and applied case problems(e.g.,overspeeding gas turbine benchmark).Review of literature from recent years indicates an extensive improvement in the algorithm reliability performance.However,this improvement has been difficult to achieve for high-reliability applications.Insights and future challenges in reliability–redundancy allocation problems optimization are also discussed in this paper. 展开更多

A high percentage of failure in pump elements originates from fatigue.This study focuses on the discharge section behavior,made of ductile iron,under dynamic load.An experimental protocol is established to collect the strain under pressurization and depressurization tests at specific locations.These experimental results are used to formulate the ultimate pressure expression function of the strain and the lateral surface of the discharge section and to validate finite element modeling.Fe-Safe is then used to assess the fatigue life cycle using different types of fatigue criteria(Coffin-Manson,Morrow,Goodman,and Soderberg).When the pressure is under 3000 PSI,pumps have an unlimited service life of 107 cycles,regardless of the criterion.However,for a pressure of 3555 PSI,only the Morrow criterion denotes a significant decrease in fatigue life cycles,as it considers the average stress.The topological optimization is then applied to the most critical pump model(with the lowest fatigue life cycle)to increase its fatigue life.Using the solid isotropic material with a penalization approach,the Abaqus Topology OptimizationModule is employed.The goal is to reduce the strain energy density while keeping the volume within bounds.According to the findings,a 5%volume reduction causes the strain energy density to decrease from 1.06 to 0.66106 J/m^(3).According to Morrow,the fatigue life cycle at 3,555 PSI is 782,425 longer than the initial 309,742 cycles. 展开更多

The tribological behavior of the CoCr28Mo/CoCr28Mo pair was studied using pin-on-disc tribometer. Four bio-lubricants were re- tained including pure sesame oil, nigella oil, physiological solution (0.9% NaC1) and Hyalgan. Hyalgan is a sodium hyaluronate (20 mg/2 mL) pharmaceutical intra-articular injection used, in this study, as a reference. The Coefficient of Friction (CoF) and wear rate (K) of CoCr28Mo were computed after tribological tests. The tribological efficiency of vegetable oils with regard to their chemical compo- sition and structure was compared to Hyalgan. It is found that, the use of vegetable oils enhanced significantly the tribological behavior of CoCr28Mo/CoCr28Mo pair. The obtained results were correlated to the chemical structure of vegetable oils namely the Unsaturations Number (UN) of fatty acids constituting the oil. Microscopic and chemical characterization of CoCr28Mo pins and discs were conducted and the wear mechanism was discussed. 展开更多

It is well known that the ambient temperature is a sensitive parameter which has a great effect on biology, technology, geology and even on human behavior. A prediction is a statement about an uncertain event. It is often, but not always, based upon experience or knowl- edge. Although guaranteed accurate information about the future is in many cases impossible, prediction can be useful to assist in making plans about possible developments. As a result, temperature profiles can be developed which accurately represent the expected ambient temperature exposure that this environment experiences during mea- surement. The ambient temperature over time is modeled based on the previous Train and Tmax data and using a Lagrange interpolation. To observe the comprehensive variation of ambient temperature the profile must be determined numerically. The model proposed in this paper can provide an acceptable way to measure the change in ambient temperature. 展开更多

This work is experimental investigation on the impact of rectangular baffles on the thermo-hydraulic performance of a solar thermal collector.The study was conducted under moderate weather conditions and six cases were studied,including 2M135,6M135,10M135,14M135,18M135,and a smooth plate case.The results showed that the number and placement of baffles plays a crucial role in improving heat transfer and the best cases in terms of thermal performance were cases V and IV,with maximum values of h=15.84 W/m2.k,and h=17.46 W/m2k.The study also found that the heat transfer was greatest at the beginning of the channel and decreased towards the end.The highest thermal efficiency was recorded in case 18M135 with a maximum value ofȠ=0.73. 展开更多

In this paper,the tribological properties of cuttlebone(CB)-reinforced high density polyethylene(HDPE)and Red Coral(RC)-reinfbrced HDPE composites were investigated.The composite specimens were prepared with a hot compression molding machine using different weight proportions of fillers blended with HDPE.The tribological behavior of the composite disks was studied using pin-on-disk tribometer under dry condition against stainless steel M30NW pins.The coefficient of friction as well as wear rate were examined to study the effects of the two fillers on the tribological perfonnance of both composites.After wear tests,different composites were examined using a Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM).It was fbund that the use of cuttlebone(CB)and Red Coral(RC)as reinforcement improved the tribological properties of HDPE. 展开更多
