Indeed, when a rail vehicle moves, the pantograph should constantly press against the underside of the catenary. Nonetheless, it is difficult to get around the complexity of the physical interaction between the pantograph and the contact wire, which could deteriorate the quality of the electricity transfer. Thus, PAC system performances could dramati- cally be reduced because of bad current collection. Therefore, in this paper, we present an output feedback solution in order to design an active control of PAC system. The proposed solution is based on the backstepping control and an adaptive observer that estimates both the (unknown) catenary parameters and the system state. All synthesis steps are given and the closed-loop analysis shows asymptotic tracking behavior regardless of the time-vary- ing catenary stiffness. Furthermore, a numerical example shows that the PAC contact can be regulated with desired effect.展开更多

The detonation of these charges can lead to significant momentum transfer onto vehicles and their occupants. A detailed understanding of the physical processes involved in the loading of vehicle structures is necessary for an optimization of effective countermeasures and protection systems. A quantitative description of the local momentum distribution on the vehicle underbody due to the detonation process is of special importance. In the following, a new test setup is presented that allows the experimental determination of the specific impulse distribution. It is based on a ring arrangement where the elements are nested into each other and the velocity of each ring is correlated with the local specific impulse at its position. The momentum transfer to a vehicle depends on a number of influencing factors such as: charge mass, embedding material(e.g. sand, gravel, clay), density, water content, saturation, depth of burial, ground clearance and vehicle shape. The presented technology is applied to quantify the influence of the embedding material(alluvial sand, quartz sand), the burial depth and the water content on the local specific impulse distribution. The obtained data can be used as initial condition for the numerical simulation of occupant safety assessment and as input for empirical modeling of momentum transfer on structures.展开更多

The emitters are mobile and include different categories of vehicles in circulation, in the road network of the region [2]. Air emissions from road transport considered in this study are the exhaust emissions from combustion of fuel during vehicle movement. This is mainly SO2 (sulfur dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxides), CO (carbon monoxide), CO2 (carbon dioxide), SP (suspended particulate) [3], VOC (volatile organic compounds), benzene, lead Pb and cadmium. These emissions depend mainly on the technology of the vehicle (type, fuel, engine size, and age), the vehicle speed, the engine temperature and ambient temperature [4].展开更多

Appropriate parametrization of optimal H-two and H-infinity controllers is used. The general formulation of the decentralized control design leads to the optimal determination of both the state feedback gains and the observer gains of the decentralized controllers. This formulation is two folds: first, a centralized controller is obtained, and then, a simplified decentralized solution is derived by optimizing only the observer gains. The mathematical determination of these gains is formulated as an LMI optimization problem that can be easily solved using LMI solvers. As an experimental evaluation of these controllers, a real time application to an aerothermic process is carried out. A continuous-time model of the process obtained with a suitable direct continuous-time identification approach is elaborated. However, the physiopathology remains not well known. The objectives of this study were 1) to describe the clinical features, 2) to look for familial clustering, and 3) to search for Pax8 mutations in a relatively large cohort of affected patients. A family history of thyroid dysgenesis was found in nine patients (40% ), whose affected relatives had ectopic thyroid (n = 4), athyreosis (n = 1), thyroid hemiagenesis (n = 2), or thyroglossal duct cysts (n = 2). Screening for Pax8 mutations identified abnormal migration profiles by SSCP analysis in 3 patients, but direct sequencing did not show coding region mutations in any of the 22 patients. In conclusion, this study provides the first evidence that thyroid hemiagenesis can occur as a familial disorder associated with any form of thyroid dysgenesis. This finding supports both a common underlying mechanism to the various abnormalities in thyroid development and a role for genetic factors; however, our results from Pax8 analysis suggest that this gene may not be a key factor.展开更多

This registry-based study was designed to assess the adherence of surveillance practices to French guidelines and identify three-year surveillance patterns and their demographic and clinical determinants. METHODS: All patients (N = 409) diagnosed with first colorectal cancer in 1998 and alive without recurrence at least six months after curative surgery were identified from a population-based registry. Medical charts from multiple sources were reviewed to collect exhaustive information on follow-up procedures used during a three-year period. Multiple correspondence and cluster analyses were used to identify surveillance patterns. RESULTS: The proportion of patients with a lower surveillance than that recommended was 35 percent for clinical examination, 65 percent for abdominal ultrasound, 52 percent for chest x-ray, and 20 percent for colonoscopy. Cluster analysis identified three patterns called minimal, moderate, and intensive surveillance patterns, which included 47, 24, and 29 percent of the patients respectively. The main independent predictors of both moderate and intensive surveillance patterns vs. minimal pattern were advanced tumor stage, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Younger age also was strongly associated with the intensive surveillance pattern, and the presence of symptoms with the moderate surveillance pattern. CONCLUSIONS: Adherence of surveillance practices to French guidelines seems relatively poor. Surveillance patterns are mainly explained by patient age, tumor stage, and treatment modalities.展开更多

An investigation ...The effect of small variations of target hardness on the depth of penetration for nominally identical target material has not been addressed systematically in publications yet and is often neglected. An investigation of this issue for laboratory-scale long rod projectiles penetrating into semi-infinite rolled-homogeneous-armor steel targets was conducted. The tungsten-heavy-alloy penetrators were of length 90 mm and diameter6 mm. Five lots of armor steel with a nominal hardness range of 280–330 BHN provided material for the targets. The pursued approach consisted of hardness testing of the targets, in total 17 ballistic experiments at velocities in between 1250 m/s and 1780 m/s and data analysis.A linear regression analysis of penetration vs. hardness shows that a target hardness increase within the given range of 280–330 BHN may result in a reduction of penetration depth of about 5.8 mm at constant velocity. This is equal to a change of-12% at an impact velocity of 1250 m/s. A multiple linear regression analysis included also the influence of yaw angle and impact velocity. It shows that small yaw angles and slight variations of impact velocities provide a smaller variation of the semi-infinite penetration depths than a variation of target hardness within a typical specification span of 50 BHN. For such a span a change in penetration of approximately-4.8 mm due to hardness variation is found, whereas 1°of yaw angle or-10 m/s of velocity variation gives a change of about-1.0 mm respectively-0.9 mm. For the given example, the overwhelming part of the variation is to be attributed to hardness effects – 4.8 mm out of 5.8 mm(83%). For nominally identical target material the target hardness thus influences the ballistic test results more severely than the typical scatter in impact conditions.展开更多

For nominally identical target material the target hardness thus influences the ballistic test results more severely than the typical scatter in impact conditions.

文摘The NATO agreement STANAG 4569 defines the protection levels for the occupants of logistic and light armored vehicle. The Allied Engineering Publication,AEP-55,Volume 2 document outlines the test conditions for underbelly improvised explosive device(IEDs),which must be buried in water-saturated sandy gravel. The use of sandy gravel has some drawbacks, for instance reproducibility, time consumption, and cost. This paper focuses on the investigation of four alternatives to sandy gravel, which could produce similar specific and cumulative impulses:a concrete pot filled with water,a concrete pot filled with quartz sand,a steel pot without filling and a concrete pot filled with glass spheres(diameter 200μm—300μm)and different water contents. The impulses are measured with a ring technology developed at the Fraunhofer EMI.A numerical soil model based on the work of Marrs,2014 and Fi serov a,2006 and considering the soil moisture was used to simulate the experiments with glass spheres at different water contents, showing much better agreement with the experiments than the classical Laine&Sandvik model, even for high saturation levels. These results can be used to create new test conditions at original scale that are more cost-effective,more reproducible and simpler to manage in comparison to the current tests carried out with STANAG sandy gravel.
