This study aims to investigate the mechanical properties and associated seismic isolation effects of foamed concrete layer in rock tunnel. For this, a series of uniaxial/triaxial compression tests was conducted to understand the effects of concrete density, confining stress and strain rate on the mechanical properties of foamed concrete. The direct shear tests were also performed to investigate the effects of concrete density and normal stress on the nonlinear behaviors of foamed concrete layer-lining interface. The test results showed that the mechanical properties of foamed concrete are significantly influenced by the concrete density. The foamed concrete also has high volumetric compressibility and strain-rate dependence. The peak stress. residual stress. shear stiffness and residual friction coefficient of the foamed concrete layer-lining interface are influenced by the foamed concrete density and normal stress applied. Then, a crushable foam constitutive model was constructed using ABAQUS software and a composite exponential model was also established to study the relationship between shear stress and shear displacement of the interface, in which their parameters were fitted based on the experimental results. Finally, a parametric analysis using the finite element method(FEM) was conducted to understand the influence of foamed concrete layer properties on the seismic isolation effect, including the density and thickness of the layer as well as the shear stiffness and residual friction coefficient of the interface. It was revealed that lower density and greater thickness in addition to smaller shear stiffness or residual friction coefficient of the foamed concrete layer could yield better seismic isolation effect, and the influences of the first two tend to be more significant.展开更多

P...Prediction of bacteria-carrying particle (BCP) dispersion and particle distribution released from staffmem- bers in an operating room (OR) is very important for creating and sustaining a safe indoor environment. Postoperative wound infections cause significant morbidity and mortality, and contribute to increased hospitalization time. Increasing the number of personnel within the OR disrupts the ventilation airflow pattern and causes enhanced contamination risk in the area of an open wound. Whether the amount of staffwithin the OR influences the BCP distribution in the surgical zone has rarely been investigated. This study was conducted to explore the influence of the number of personnel in the OR on the airflow field and the BCP distribution. This was performed by applying a numerical calculation to map the airflow field and Lagrangian particle tracking (LPT) for the BCP phase. The results are reported both for active sampling and passive monitoring approaches. Not surprisingly, a growing trend in the BCP concentration (cfu/ms) was observed as the amount of staff in the OR increased. Passive sampling shows unpredictable results due to the sedimentation rate, especially for small particles (5-10 i^m). Risk factors for surgical site infections (SSls) must be well understood to develop more effective prevention programs.展开更多

Since at least one third of global food is wasted before consumption, there are enormous incentives to cut this wast...An important way to address global food security is to make better use of the food already produced. Since at least one third of global food is wasted before consumption, there are enormous incentives to cut this waste and create a more sustainable food system. This paper focuses upon saving food loss at the supermarket level in the US and channeling this food stream in new and efficient ways to those in hunger. A more comprehensive Food System-Sensitive Methodology has been used to pilot and evaluate a surplus food management program that diverts culled fresh fruits and vegetables from grocery stores that would otherwise be disposed of in landfills. Instead, produce is processed for donation or for new businesses. Nearly 35,000 pounds of produce was culled from a grocery store chain in Philadelphia. Twenty-five percent of this was not suitable for culinary uses, ten percent consisted of relatively small quantities of food that did not warrant further research, and about 33 percent is suitable for use at area food shelters and pantries. An experimental sample taken from the remaining 15,000 pounds was used for recipe research and development for diversion to new commercial enterprises. We analyzed a scenario where a supermarket receives $0.25 per pound for culled produce, generating about $8700 dollars in average monthly revenue while eliminating disposal costs. New commercial possibilities for the unused food were then explored. The scenario included community-based enterprises that could process the produce into value-added products that could be wholesaled back to the store at sufficient profits to support 2 - 4 community employees. Extrapolating these results to the approximately 38,000 large supermarkets in the United States suggests that much of the 1,100,000,000 pounds of produce that is currently sent to landfills can be repurposed. BACKGROUND Incidence of cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is rising,with overall prognosis remaining very poor.Reasons for the high mortality of CCA include its late presentation in most patients,when curative options are no lon...BACKGROUND Incidence of cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is rising,with overall prognosis remaining very poor.Reasons for the high mortality of CCA include its late presentation in most patients,when curative options are no longer feasible,and poor response to systemic therapies for advanced disease.Late presentation presents a large barrier to improving outcomes and is often associated with diagnosis via mergency presentation(EP).Earlier diagnoses may be made by Two Week Wait(TWW)referrals through General practitioner(GP).We hypothesise that TWW referrals and EP routes to diagnosis differ across regions in England.AIM To investigate routes to diagnosis of CCA over time,regional variation and influencing factors.METHODS We linked patient records from the National Cancer Registration Dataset to Hospital Episode Statistics,Cancer Waiting Times and Cancer Screening Programme datasets to define routes to diagnosis and certain patient characteristics for patients diagnosed 2006-2017 in England.We used linear probability models to investigate geographic variation by assessing the proportions of patients diagnosed via TWW referral or EP across Cancer Alliances in England,adjusting for potential confounders.Correlation between the proportion of people diagnosed by TWW referral and EP was investigated with Spearman’s correlation coefficient.RESULTS Of 23632 patients diagnosed between 2006-2017 in England,the most common route to diagnosis was EP(49.6%).Non-TWW GP referrals accounted for 20.5%of diagnosis routes,13.8%were diagnosed by TWW referral,and the remainder 16.2%were diagnosed via an‘other’or Unknown route.The proportion diagnosed via a TWW referral doubled between 2006-2017 rising from 9.9%to 19.8%,conversely EP diagnosis route declined,falling from 51.3%to 46.0%.Statistically significant variation in both the TWW referral and EP proportions was found across Cancer Alliances.Age,presence of comorbidity and underlying liver disease were independently associated with both a lower proportion of patients diagnosed via TWW展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Incidence of cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is rising,with overall prognosis remaining very poor.Reasons for the high mortality of CCA include its late presentation in most patients,when curative options are no longer feasible,and poor response to systemic therapies for advanced disease.Late presentation presents a large barrier to improving outcomes and is often associated with diagnosis via mergency presentation(EP).Earlier diagnoses may be made by Two Week Wait(TWW)referrals through General practitioner(GP).We hypothesise that TWW referrals and EP routes to diagnosis differ across regions in England.AIM To investigate routes to diagnosis of CCA over time,regional variation and influencing factors.METHODS We linked patient records from the National Cancer Registration Dataset to Hospital Episode Statistics,Cancer Waiting Times and Cancer Screening Programme datasets to define routes to diagnosis and certain patient characteristics for patients diagnosed 2006-2017 in England.We used linear probability models to investigate geographic variation by assessing the proportions of patients diagnosed via TWW referral or EP across Cancer Alliances in England,adjusting for potential confounders.Correlation between the proportion of people diagnosed by TWW referral and EP was investigated with Spearman’s correlation coefficient.RESULTS Of 23632 patients diagnosed between 2006-2017 in England,the most common route to diagnosis was EP(49.6%).Non-TWW GP referrals accounted for 20.5%of diagnosis routes,13.8%were diagnosed by TWW referral,and the remainder 16.2%were diagnosed via an‘other’or Unknown route.The proportion diagnosed via a TWW referral doubled between 2006-2017 rising from 9.9%to 19.8%,conversely EP diagnosis route declined,falling from 51.3%to 46.0%.Statistically significant variation in both the TWW referral and EP proportions was found across Cancer Alliances.Age,presence of comorbidity and underlying liver disease were independently associated with both a lower proportion of patients diagnosed via TWW
文摘At present China-U.S.trade relations are in a state of confusion.Although both countries have gained tremendous benefits from the bilateral trade relationship,some Americans have intentionally distorted some basic facts regarding China-U.S.trade relations. Based on an analysis of some official and nonofficial research reports published in the United States,this article holds that the China-U.S.trade imbalance is the symptom of a bigger issue stemming from the contradiction between the United States as the world's sole superpower and China as an emerging power.Economic globalisation came about due to the needs of western developed countries represented by the United States to boost economic development.Only by seizing the opportunities of economic globalisation, has China gained strong economic growth. Such a development is changing the world political,economic,military and cultural landscape that have been shaped since the post-cold-war era,and has to some extent raised doubt or suspicion on the part of the United States and its western allies.This is a manifestation of how unprepared some people in the United States and other western countries are in the face of China's rapid development and rising status.So,their immediate reaction has been to seek protection for themselves,and try their utmost to prevent China's rapid growth from impacting on the international framework and their vested interests.

文摘Web crawlers have evolved from performing a meagre task of collecting statistics,security testing,web indexing and numerous other examples.The size and dynamism of the web are making crawling an interesting and challenging task.Researchers have tackled various issues and challenges related to web crawling.One such issue is efficiently discovering hidden web data.Web crawler’s inability to work with form-based data,lack of benchmarks and standards for both performance measures and datasets for evaluation of the web crawlers make it still an immature research domain.The applications like vertical portals and data integration require hidden web crawling.Most of the existing methods are based on returning top k matches that makes exhaustive crawling difficult.The documents which are ranked high will be returned multiple times.The low ranked documents have slim chances of being retrieved.Discovering the hidden web sources and ranking them based on relevance is a core component of hidden web crawlers.The problem of ranking bias,heuristic approach and saturation of ranking algorithm led to low coverage.This research represents an enhanced ranking algorithm based on the triplet formula for prioritizing hidden websites to increase the coverage of the hidden web crawler.
