The obtained IrNPs and IrSMPs were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The IrSMPs (or IrNPs) with disc-like shape and irregular shapes were obtained on ITO substrate by direct surface growth method using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and sodium citrate as different stabilizers, respectively. The reaction time and the injection temperature of reducing agent are found to have great effect on the size and morphology of the surface-grown Ir particles. The disc-like, ellipsoidal, and spherical IrSMPs (or IrNPs) were also synthesized in homogeneous solution in the presence of H3BO3 and Na2B4O7 as assistant-stabilizer. These IrNPs and IrSMPs were used as building blocks to construct nanoparticle assemblies by using a simple drop-drying method. Uniform IrNP and IrSMP assemblies were successfully prepared on Si and ITO substrates, indicating that the drop-drying method is efficient for the preparation of not only nanoparticle assemblies but also submicroparticle assemblies.展开更多

The result is an accurate array of lines with a periodicity of 212.8±0.2 nm and mean full-width at half maximum as approximately 95 nm. Surface growth in laser-focused Cr atomic deposition is modeled and studied by kinetic Monte Carlo simulation including two events: the one is that atom trajectories in laser standing wave are simulated with the semiclassical equations of motion to obtain the deposition position; the other is that adatom diffuses by considering two major diffusion processes, namely, terrace diffusion and step-edge descending. Comparing with experimental results (Anderson W R, Bradley C C, McClelland J J and Celotta R J 1999 Phys. Rev. A 59 2476), it finds that the simulated trend of dependence on feature width is in agreement with the power of standing wave, the other two simulated trends are the same in the initial stage. These results demonstrate that some surface diffusion processes play important role in feature width broadening. Numerical result also shows that high incoming beam flux of atoms deposited redounds to decrease the distance between adatoms which can diffuse to minimize the feature width and enhance the contrast.展开更多

Comparison was also done between two methods for measurements at the same point (sawing grooves inside the position pins)and at two points. Results showed that the values obtained from the CIRAD-Foret method were bigger than those from strain gauge method. The former was 1.3 times as high as the latter for the measurement at two points, and it was 2.0 times as high as the latter for the measurement at the same point. There was no distinct difference in the longitudinal surface growth strains from strain gauge method with measuring way at the same point and two points. However, the differences were obvious for the strains from CIRAD-Foret method with two measuring ways. They indicated that there was little effect on the values from strain gauge method with measuring way at the same point or at two points, and that the measuring way would influence measured result when CIRAD-Foret method was applied. In general, in comparison with CIRAD-Foret method, strain gauge method was more stable.展开更多

Zeroth-order lognormal distributions (ZOLD) were used in the analysis of experimental distribution phe-nomena at different residence times during soot formation in the flame. Rayleigh抯 theory and Mie抯 scattering theory were combined with agglomerate analysis using scattering and extinction data to determine the following soot charac-teristics: agglomerate parameters, volumetric fractions, mass flow rates and surface growth rate. Soot density meas-urements were carried out to determine density variations at different stages of growth. The measured results show that for long residence times the soot clearly crystallizes with higher density (up to 1.8 g.cm-3). The increases of soot volu-metric fraction and mass flow rate indicate that the surface growth rate of soot particles exceeds the oxidation rates in the flame studied. The data obtained in this work would be used to study soot oxidation rate under flaming condition.展开更多
