High-speed railway aerodynamics is the key basic science for solving the bottleneck problem of high-speed railway development.This paper systematically summarizes the aerodynamic research relating to China’s high-speed railway network.Seven key research advances are comprehensively discussed,including train aerodynamic drag-reduction technology,train aerodynamic noise-reduction technology,train ventilation technology,train crossing aerodynamics,train/tunnel aerodynamics,train/climate environment aerodynamics,and train/human body aerodynamics.Seven types of railway aerodynamic test platform built by Central South University are introduced.Five major systems for a high-speed railway network—the aerodynamics theoretical system,the aerodynamic shape(train,tunnel,and so on)design system,the aerodynamics evaluation system,the 3D protection system for operational safety of the high-speed railway network,and the high-speed railway aerodynamic test/computation/analysis platform system—are also introduced.Finally,eight future development directions for the field of railway aerodynamics are proposed.For over 30 years,railway aerodynamics has been an important supporting element in the development of China’s high-speed railway network,which has also promoted the development of high-speed railway aerodynamics throughout the world. 展开更多

With the increase of the speed of train, aerodynamic drag plays an important role for high-speed train. Thus, the reduction of aerodynamic drag and energy consumption of high-speed train is one of the essential issues for the development of the desirable train system. Aerodynamic drag on the traveling train is divided into pressure drag and friction one. Pressure drag of train is the force caused by the pressure distribution on the train along the reverse running direction. Friction drag of train is the sum of shear stress, which is the reverse direction of train running direction. In order to reduce the aerodynamic drag, adopting streamline shape of train is the most effective measure. The velocity of the train is related to its length and shape. The outer wind shields can reduce train's air drag by about 15%. At the same time, the train with bottom cover can reduce the air drag by about 50%, compared with the train without bottom plate or skirt structure. 展开更多

With the continuous improvement of the train speed, the dynamic environment of trains turns out to be aerodynamic domination. Solving the aerodynamic problems has become one of the key factors of the high-speed train head design. Given that the aerodynamic drag is a significant factor that restrains train speed and energy conservation, reducing the aerodynamic drag is thus an important consideration of the high-speed train head design. However, the reduction of the aerodynamic drag may increase other aerodynamic forces (moments), possibly deteriorating the operational safety of the train. The multi-objective optimization design method of the high-speed train head was proposed in this paper, and the aerodynamic drag and load reduction factor were set to be optimization objectives. The automatic multi-objective optimization design of the high-speed train head can be achieved by integrating a series of procedures into the multi-objective optimization algorithm, such as the establishment of 3D parametric model, the aerodynamic mesh generation, the calculation of the flow field around the train, and the vehicle system dynamics. The correlation between the optimization objectives and optimization variables was analyzed to obtain the most important optimization variables, and a further analysis of the nonlinear relationship between the key optimization variables and the optimization objectives was obtained. After optimization, the aerodynamic drag of optimized train was reduced by up to 4.15%, and the load reduction factor was reduced by up to 1.72%. 展开更多

针对360 mm×450 mm断面的45钢连铸坯中心疏松和缩孔导致轧制后圆钢探伤不合格的问题,开展了拉速与二冷水对比试验、凝固末端电磁搅拌对比试验以及重压下压下辊辊型对比试验,采用低倍酸洗、原位分析和真密度分析了试验铸坯和轧制后... 针对360 mm×450 mm断面的45钢连铸坯中心疏松和缩孔导致轧制后圆钢探伤不合格的问题,开展了拉速与二冷水对比试验、凝固末端电磁搅拌对比试验以及重压下压下辊辊型对比试验,采用低倍酸洗、原位分析和真密度分析了试验铸坯和轧制后圆钢质量。试验结果表明,采用拉速0.45 m/min、二冷采用中冷、凝固末端电磁搅拌采用300 A/2.4 Hz时有利于铸坯扩大铸坯等轴晶区,铸坯等轴晶区最大为280 mm×170 mm。重压下采用凸形辊生产的铸坯中心真密度为8.022 6 g/cm3,致密度为0.998 4,高于平辊重压下。综合技术应用后,累计生产45圆钢2 583 t,45圆钢探伤合格率从70.85%提高到95.87%。 展开更多

A high-speed train-track coupling dynamic model is used to investigate the dynamic behavior of a high-speed train operating on a curved track with failed fasteners. The model considers a high-speed train consisting of eight vehicles coupled with a ballasted track. The vehicle is modeled as a multi-body system, and the rail is modeled with a Timoshenko beam resting on the discrete sleepers. The vehicle model considers the effect of the end connections of the neighboring vehicles on the dynamic behavior. The track model takes into account the lateral, vertical, and torsional deformations of the rails and the effect of the discrete sleeper support on the coupling dynamics of the vehicles and the track. The sleepers are assumed to move backward at a constant speed to simulate the vehicle running along the track at the same speed. The train model couples with the track model by using a Hertzian contact model for the wheel/rail normal force calculation, and the nonlinear creep theory by Shen et al. (1984) is used for wheel/rail tangent force calculation. In the analysis, a curved track of 7000-m radius with failed fasteners is selected, and the effects of train operational speed and the number of failed fasteners on the dynamic behaviors of the train and the track are investigated in detail. Furthermore, the wheel/rail forces and derailment coefficient and the wheelset loading reduction are analyzed when the high-speed train passes over the curved track with the different number of continuously failed fasteners at different operational speeds. Through the detailed numerical analysis, it is found that the high-speed train can operate normally on the curved track of 7000-m radius at the speeds of 200 km/h to 350 km/h. 展开更多

A Workable Solution for Reducing the Large Number of Vehicle and Pedestrian Accidents Occurring on a Yellow Light

Traffic intersections are incredibly dangerous for drivers and pedestrians. Statistics from both Canada and the U.S. show a high number of fatalities and serious injuries related to crashes at intersections. In Canada, during 2019, the National Collision Database shows that 28% of traffic fatalities and 42% of serious injuries occurred at intersections. Likewise, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) found that about 40% of the estimated 5,811,000 accidents in the U.S. during the year studied were intersection-related crashes. In fact, a major survey by the car insurance industry found that nearly 85% of drivers could not identify the correct action to take when approaching a yellow traffic light at an intersection. One major reason for these accidents is the “yellow light dilemma,” the ambiguous situation where a driver should stop or proceed forward when unexpectedly faced with a yellow light. This situation is even further exacerbated by the tendency of aggressive drivers to inappropriately speed up on the yellow just to get through the traffic light. A survey of Canadian drivers conducted by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation found that 9% of drivers admitted to speeding up to get through a traffic light. Another reason for these accidents is the increased danger of making a left-hand turn on yellow. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), left turns occur in approximately 22.2% of collisions—as opposed to just 1.2% for right turns. Moreover, a study by CNN found left turns are three times as likely to kill pedestrians than right turns. The reason left turns are so much more likely to cause an accident is because they take a driver against traffic and in the path of oncoming cars. Additionally, most of these left turns occur at the driver’s discretion—as opposed to the distressingly brief left-hand arrow at busy intersections. 准确的风速预测是提高风功率预测精度的重要保障。为此,提出一种基于互信息(mutualinformation,MI)属性约简与加权最优层次聚类(weighting optimal hierarchy clustering,WOHC)的离群鲁棒极限学习机(outlier robust extreme learning ma... 准确的风速预测是提高风功率预测精度的重要保障。为此,提出一种基于互信息(mutualinformation,MI)属性约简与加权最优层次聚类(weighting optimal hierarchy clustering,WOHC)的离群鲁棒极限学习机(outlier robust extreme learning machine,ORELM)风速混合预测方法。首先,计算32维风速属性特征与风速时间序列间的MI,分析不同特征与风速的相关性。在此基础上,分别采用最大相关最小冗余(maximum correlation minimum redundancy,MRMR)算法和WOHC算法实现风速属性特征的约简及风速样本数据的聚类划分,并通过最优化聚类预处理(clusters optimizationonpreprocessingstage,COPS)确定最优聚类数。然后,采用ORELM对不同样本集分别进行训练,构建ORELM风速混合预测模型。计算待预测点约简后的属性特征与每个聚类中心的欧式距离,选择匹配的ORELM模型进行风速预测。最后,结合东北某风电场实测数据对所提预测方法的有效性和准确性进行验证,结果表明所提方法具有较好的预测精度,能够满足实际风电场风速预测的需要。 展开更多

Reducing the aerodynamic drag and noise levels of high-speed pantographs is important for promoting environmentally friendly,energy efficient and rapid advances in train technology.Using computational fluid dynamics theory and the K-FWH acoustic equation,a numerical simulation is conducted to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of high-speed pantographs.A component optimization method is proposed as a possible solution to the problemof aerodynamic drag and noise in high-speed pantographs.The results of the study indicate that the panhead,base and insulator are the main contributors to aerodynamic drag and noise in high-speed pantographs.Therefore,a gradual optimization process is implemented to improve the most significant components that cause aerodynamic drag and noise.By optimizing the cross-sectional shape of the strips and insulators,the drag and noise caused by airflow separation and vortex shedding can be reduced.The aerodynamic drag of insulator with circular cross section and strips with rectangular cross section is the largest.Ellipsifying insulators and optimizing the chamfer angle and height of the windward surface of the strips can improve the aerodynamic performance of the pantograph.In addition,the streamlined fairing attached to the base can eliminate the complex flow and shield the radiated noise.In contrast to the original pantograph design,the improved pantograph shows a 21.1%reduction in aerodynamic drag and a 1.65 dBA reduction in aerodynamic noise. 展开更多

Stability analysis of loose accumulation slopes under rainfall:case study of a high‑speed railway in Southwest China

The high and steep slopes along a high-speed railway in the mountainous area of Southwest China are mostly composed of loose accumulations of debris with large internal pores and poor stability,which can easily induce adverse geological disasters under rainfall conditions.To ensure the smooth construction of the high-speed railway and the subsequent safe operation,it is necessary to master the stability evolution process of the loose accumulation slope under rainfall.This article simulates rainfall using the finite element analysis software’s hydromechanical coupling module.The slope stability under various rainfall situations is calculated and analysed based on the strength reduction method.To validate the simulation results,a field monitoring system is established to study the deformation characteristics of the slope under rainfall.The results show that rainfall duration is the key factor affecting slope stability.Given a constant amount of rainfall,the stability of the slope decreases with increasing duration of rainfall.Moreover,when the amount and duration of rainfall are constant,continuous rainfall has a greater impact on slope stability than intermittent rainfall.The setting of the field retaining structures has a significant role in improving slope stability.The field monitoring data show that the slope is in the initial deformation stage and has good stability,which verifies the rationality of the numerical simulation method.The research results can provide some references for understanding the influence of rainfall on the stability of loose accumulation slopes along high-speed railways and establishing a monitoring system. 展开更多

In order to find a relationship... The body surface of some organisms has non-smooth structure, which is related to drag reduction in moving fluid. To imitate these structures, models with a non-smooth surface were made. In order to find a relationship between drag reduction and the non-smooth surface, an orthogonal design test was employed in a low speed wind tunnel. Six factors likely to influence drag reduction were considered, and each factor tested at three levels. The six factors were the configuration, diameter/bottom width, height/depth, distribution, the arrangement of the rough structures on the experimental model and the wind speed. It was shown that the non-smooth surface causes drag reduction and the distribution of non-smooth structures on the model, and wind speed, are the predominant factors affecting drag reduction. Using analysis of variance, the optimal combination and levels were obtained, which were a wind speed of 44 m/s, distribution of the non-smooth structure on the tail of the experimental model, the configuration of riblets, diameter/bottom width of i mm, height/depth of 0.5 mm, arranged in a rhombic formation. At the optimal combination mentioned above, the 99% confidence interval for drag reduction was 11.13% to 22.30%. 展开更多

Inspired by the fact that bogies and bottom equipment generally contribute a great deal of aerodynamic drag to high-speed trains,this paper puts forward a simple method of mounting some small deflectors before and/or after the bogie cabins to optimize the underbody flow and reduce the aerodynamic drag of high-speed trains.The flow fields of the high-speed train models with and without bottom deflectors are numerically studied by the IDDES method.The effectiveness and further mechanism of the bottom deflectors on aerodynamic drag reduction are analyzed.It is demonstrated that the bottom deflectors could guide the underbody flow to the ground and prevent it from hitting on the bogies and bottom equipment of the train,resulting in a significant aerodynamic drag reduction effect.Moreover,the effects of different mounting locations of bottom deflectors on drag reduction are discussed as well,and an optimal mounting configuration with a drag reduction effect of up to about 12%is finally obtained.Nevertheless,the mounted deflector is also proved capable of significantly reducing the interference range of the underbody flow and reducing the slipstream of the train,which possesses a higher guarantee for the safety of railway workers and passengers waiting on the platforms.This work provides a new idea for aerodynamic drag reduction of high-speed trains,and is of great significance in energy conservation and consumption reduction. 展开更多

对调谐质量阻尼器在旋转机械振动控制中的应用进行了研究,不改变原有转子系统支撑形式,设计了一种半主动笼式调谐质量阻尼器.提出基于转速的分段开关控制策略,并开发了一套基于laborary virtual instrument engineering workbench(LabVI... 对调谐质量阻尼器在旋转机械振动控制中的应用进行了研究,不改变原有转子系统支撑形式,设计了一种半主动笼式调谐质量阻尼器.提出基于转速的分段开关控制策略,并开发了一套基于laborary virtual instrument engineering workbench(LabVIEW)的转子振动实时闭环控制系统,可根据转速对该笼式调谐质量阻尼器通过变质量实现在线动态调节自振频率,实现半主动控制.搭建了单跨转子调谐质量阻尼实验台装置,对转子过临界转速的振动进行了实验研究.结果表明:基于开关控制的半主动笼式调谐质量阻尼器能有效降低转子过临界振动,减振幅度可达83.4%,并能很好避免调谐质量阻尼器引起的新的共振峰. 展开更多

随着燃气热泵的大力推广,有关燃气热泵排放的标准愈发严格。通过燃气热泵烟气排放试验,研究在燃气热泵稳定运行工况下,燃气消耗量、过量空气系数、发动机转速对燃气热泵烟气排放的影响。结果表明:w(NOx)和烟气温度整体随燃气消耗量的增... 随着燃气热泵的大力推广,有关燃气热泵排放的标准愈发严格。通过燃气热泵烟气排放试验,研究在燃气热泵稳定运行工况下,燃气消耗量、过量空气系数、发动机转速对燃气热泵烟气排放的影响。结果表明:w(NOx)和烟气温度整体随燃气消耗量的增加呈上升趋势,提升过量空气系数可以降低w(NOx),并使w(CO)维持在较低水平。从降低污染物排放的角度来说,过量空气系数宜维持在1.40左右。随着发动机转速的增加,w(NOx)和w(CO)都呈先降后升的趋势,最小值均出现在转速为1250 r/min左右时,而且烟气温度与发动机转速呈线性正相关。 展开更多
