However, it is only until recently, with the rapid development of optical mierocavity research, that we are able to manipulate and utilize this coupling process. When a high Q microeavity couples to a mechanical resonator, they can consolidate into an optomeehanieal system. Benefitting from the unique characteristics offered by optomeehanical coupling, this hybrid system has become a promising platform for ultrasensitive sensors to detect displacement, mass, force and acceleration. In this review, we introduce the basic physical concepts of cavity optomechanies, and describe some of the most typical experimental cavity optomechanical systems for sensing applications. Finally, we discuss the noise arising from various sources and show the potentiality of optomechanical sensing towards quantum-noise-limited detection.展开更多

To solve this issue, all-inorganic halide perovskites have been developed and shown to exhibit significantly improved stability. Here, we report a single-step chemical vapor deposition growth of cesium lead halide (CsPbX3) microcrystals. Optical microscopy studies show that the resulting perovskite crystals predominantly adopt a square-platelet morphology. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) studies of the resulting crystals demonstrate a highly crystalline nature, with CsPbC13, CsPbBr3, and CsPbI3 showing tetragonal, monoclinic, and orthorhombic phases, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies show that the resulting platelets exhibit well-faceted structures with lateral dimensions of the order of 10-50 μm, thickness around 1 μm, and ultra-smooth surface, suggesting the absence of obvious grain boundaries and the single-crystalline nature of the individual microplatelets. Photoluminescence (PL) images and spectroscopic studies show a uniform and intense emission consistent with the expected band edge transition. Additionally, PL images show brighter emission around the edge of the platelets, demonstrating a wave-guiding effect in high-quality crystals. With a well-defined geometry and ultra-smooth surface, the square platelet structure can function as a whispering gallery mode cavity with a quality factor up to 2,863 to support laser emission at room temperature. Finally, we demonstrate that such microplatelets can be readily grown on a variety of substrates, including silicon, graphene, and other two-dimensional materials such as molybdenum disulfide, which can readily allow the construction of heterostructure optoelectronic devices, including a graphene/perovskite/ graphene vertically-stacked photodetector with photorespo展开更多

Nevertheless, the practical deploymentof OAM within a free-space optical (FSO) communications system is still hampered by a major challenge, namely that OAM-based FSO links are vulnerable to disturbances. Though several techniques, such as using various non-diffraction beams and multiple transmit–receive apertures, are proposed to alleviate the influence of disturbances, these techniquessignificantly reduce the performance with regard to combating single fading for spatial blockages of the laser beam byobstructions. In this work, we initially demonstrate that a Fabry-Pérot resonant cavity has the ability to implement OAM mode healing, even for a blocking percentage of over 50%. Consequently, the proposed method will expand the use ofOAM in the FSO secure communications and quantum encryption fields.展开更多

In these experiments the laser performance relies on the length stability of the Fabry-Perot cavities. Vibration-induced deformation is one of the dominant factors that affect the stability of ultra-stable optical cavities. We have quantitatively analysed the elastic deformation of Fabry-Perot cavities with various shapes and mounting configurations. Our numerical result facilitates a novel approach for the design of ultra-stable cavities that are insensitive to vibrational perturbations. This approach can be applied to many experiments such as laser frequency stabilization, high-precision laser spectroscopy, and optical frequency standards.展开更多

This paper first presents a review of finesse measurement techniques, including a comparative analysis of the advantages, disadvantages, and potential limitations of several main methods from both theoretical and practical perspectives. A variant of the existing method called the free spectral range(FSR) modulation method is proposed and compared with three other finesse measurement methods, i.e., the fast-switching cavity ring-down(CRD) method, the rapidly swept-frequency(SF) CRD method, and the ringing effect method. A high-power OEC platform with a high finesse of approximately 16000 is built and measured with the four methods. The performance of these methods is compared, and the results show that the FSR modulation method and the fast-switching CRD method are more suitable and accurate than the other two methods for high-finesse OEC measurements. The CRD method and the ringing effect method can be implemented in open loop using simple equipment and are easy to perform. Additionally, recommendations for selecting finesse measurement methods under different conditions are proposed, which benefit the development of OEC and its applications.展开更多
