METHODS: Rats with cirrhosis induced by carbon tetrachloride were randomly divided into two groups, one n =13 receiving 0.5mg.kg(-1) per day of N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, for 10 days, whereas the other group (n =13) and control (n =10) rats were administrated the same volume of 9g.L(-1) saline. Half gastric emptying time and 2h residual rate were measured by SPECT, using (99m)Tc-DTPA-labeled barium sulfate as test meal. Gastrointestinal transition time was recorded simultaneously. Serum concentration of nitric oxide (NO) was determined by the kinetic cadmium reduction and colorimetric methods. Immunohistochemical SABC method was used to observe the expression and distribution of three types of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) isoforms in the rat gastrointestinal tract. Western blot was used to detect expression of gastrointestinal NOS isoforms. RESULTS: Half gastric emptying time and trans-gastrointestinal time were significantly prolonged(124.0 +/- 26.4 min; 33.7 +/- 8.9 min; 72.1 +/- 15.3 min; P【0.01), (12.4 +/- 0.5h; 9.5 +/- 0.3h; 8.2 +/- 0.8h; P【0.01), 2h residual rate was raised in cirrhotic rats than in controls and cirrhotic rats treated with L-NAME (54.9 +/- 7.6%,13.7 +/- 3.2%, 34.9 +/- 10.3%, P【0.01). Serum concentration of NO was significantly increased in cirrhotic rats than in the other groups (8.20 +/- 2.48) micromol.L(-1), (5.94 +/-1.07) micromol.L(-1) and control (5.66 +/- 1.60 micromol.L(-1), P【0.01. NOS staining intensities which were mainly located in the gastrointestinal tissues were markedly lower in cirrhotic rats than in the controls and cirrhotic rats after treated with L-NAME. CONCLUSION: Gastrointestinal motility was remarkably inhibited in cirrhotic rats, which could be alleviated by L-NAME. Nitric oxide may play an important role in the inhibition of gastrointestinal motility in cirrhotic rats.展开更多

Lignin is the most abundant aromatic natural polymer,and receiving great attention in replacing various petro-leum-based polymers.The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of technical lignin as a polyol...Lignin is the most abundant aromatic natural polymer,and receiving great attention in replacing various petro-leum-based polymers.The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of technical lignin as a polyol for the synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethane(NIPU)adhesives to substitute current polyurethane(PU)adhesives that have been synthesized with toxic isocyanate and polyols.Crude hardwood kraft lignin(C-HKL)was extracted from black liquor from a pulp mill followed by acetone fractionation to obtain acetone soluble-HKL(AS-HKL).Then,C-HKL,AS-HKL,and softwood sodium lignosulfonate(LS)were used for the synthesis of technical lignin-based NIPU adhesives through carbonation and polyamination and silane as a cross-linker.Their adhesion per-formance was determined for plywood.FTIR spectra showed the formation of urethane bonds and the reaction between lignin and silane.The NIPU adhesives prepared with C-HKL showed the highest adhesion strength among the three lignin-based NIPU adhesives.As the silane addition level increased,the adhesion strength of NIPU adhesives increased whereas formaldehyde emission decreased for all NIPU adhesives prepared.These results indicate that NIPU adhesives based on technical kraft lignin have a great potential as polyol for the synth-esis of bio-based NIPU adhesives for wood bonding.展开更多
To investigate the impact of emission controls on ammonia(NH_(3)) pollution in urban atmosphere, observation on NH_(3)(1 hr interval) was performed in Shanghai before, during and after the 2019 China International Imp...To investigate the impact of emission controls on ammonia(NH_(3)) pollution in urban atmosphere, observation on NH_(3)(1 hr interval) was performed in Shanghai before, during and after the 2019 China International Import Expo (CIIE) event, along with measurements on inorganic ions, organic tracers and stable nitrogen isotope compositions of ammonium in PM_(2.5). NH_(3)during the CIIE period was 6.5±1.0μg/m^(3), which is 41% and 32% lower than that before and after the event, respectively. Such a decrease was largely ascribed to the emission controls in nonagricultural sources, of which contribution for measured NH_(3)in control phase abated by ~20% compared to that during uncontrol period. Molecular compositions of PAHs and hopanes further suggested a dominant role of the reduced vehicle emissions in the urban NH_(3)abatement during the CIIE period. Our results revealed that vehicle exhaust emission control is an effective way to mitigate NH_(3)pollution and improve air quality in Chinese urban areas.展开更多
Brake wear is an important but unregulated vehicle-related source of atmospheric particulate matter(PM).The single-particle spectral fingerprints of brake wear particles(BWPs)provide essential information for understa...Brake wear is an important but unregulated vehicle-related source of atmospheric particulate matter(PM).The single-particle spectral fingerprints of brake wear particles(BWPs)provide essential information for understanding their formation mechanism and atmospheric contributions.Herein,we obtained the single-particle mass spectra of BWPs by combining a brake dynamometer with an online single particle aerosol mass spectrometer and quantified real-world BWP emissions through a tunnel observation in Tianjin,China.The pure BWPs mainly include three distinct types of particles,namely,Bacontaining particles,mineral particles,and carbon-containing particles,accounting for 44.2%,43.4%,and 10.3%of the total BWP number concentration,respectively.The diversified mass spectra indicate complex BWP formation pathways,such as mechanical,phase transition,and chemical processes.Notably,the mass spectra of Ba-containing particles are unique,which allows them to serve as an excellent indicator for estimating ambient BWP concentrations.By evaluating this indicator,we find that approximately 4.0%of the PM in the tunnel could be attributable to brake wear;the real-world fleet-average emission factor of 0.28 mg km1 veh1 is consistent with the estimation obtained using the receptor model.The results presented herein can be used to inform assessments of the environmental and health impacts of BWPs to formulate effective emissions control policies.展开更多
Non-road equipment is one of the key contributing sources to air pollution.Thus,an accurate development of emission inventory from non-road equipment is imperative for air quality management,especially for equipment w...Non-road equipment is one of the key contributing sources to air pollution.Thus,an accurate development of emission inventory from non-road equipment is imperative for air quality management,especially for equipment with a large population such as diesel-fueled forklifts.The objective of this paper is to characterize duty-cycle based emissions from diesel-fueled forklifts using a portable emission measurement system(PEMS).Three dutycycles were defined in this study,including idling,moving,and working(active duty operation)and used to characterize in-use emissions for diesel-fueled forklifts.A total of twelve diesel-fueled forklifts were selected for real-world emission measurements.Results showed that fuel-based emission factors appear to have smaller variability compared to time-based ones.For example,the time-based emission factors for CO,HC,NO,and PM 2.5 for forklifts were estimated to be 16.6-43.9,5.3-15.1,26.2-49.9,5.5-11.1 g/hr with the fuel-based emission factors being 12.1-20.3,4.1-8.3,19.1-32.4,3.5-6.5 g/kg-fuel,respectively.NO emissions appear to be the biggest concern for emissions control.Furthermore,most of the emissions factors estimated from this study are significantly different from those in both National Guideline for Emission Inventory Development for Non-Road Equipment in China and welldeveloped emission factor models such as NONROAD by US EPA.This implies that localized,preferably fuel-based emission factors should be adjusted based on real-world emission measurements in order to develop a representative emission inventory for non-road equipment.展开更多
