Due to the large number of submodules(SMs),and modular multilevel converters(MMCs)in high-voltage applications,they are usually regulated by the nearest level modulation(NLM).Moreover,the large number of SMs causes a ...Due to the large number of submodules(SMs),and modular multilevel converters(MMCs)in high-voltage applications,they are usually regulated by the nearest level modulation(NLM).Moreover,the large number of SMs causes a challenge for the fault diagnosis strategy(FDS).This paper proposes a currentless FDS for MMC with NLM.In FDS,the voltage sensor is relocated to measure the output voltage of the SM.To acquire the capacitor voltage and avoid increasing extra sensors,a capacitor voltage calculation method is proposed.Based on the measurement of output voltages,the faults can be detected and the number of different-type switch open-circuit faults can be confirmed from the numerous SMs in an arm,which narrows the scope of fault localization.Then,the faulty SMs and faulty switches in these SMs are further located without arm current according to the sorting of capacitor voltages in the voltage balancing algorithm.The FDS is independent of the arm current,which can reduce the communication cost in the hierarchical control system of MMC.Furthermore,the proposed FDS not only simplifies the identification of switch open-circuit faults by confirming the scope of faults,but also detects and locates multiple different-type faults in an arm.The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified by the simulation results.展开更多

It can be used as ...A multifunctional surface plasmon polariton disk device coupled by two metal-insulator-metal(MIM) waveguides is proposed and investigated numerically with finite-difference time-domain simulation. It can be used as optical switch and temperature sensor by filling disk with liquid crystal and ethanol, respectively. The simulation results demonstrate that the transmission characteristics of an optical switch can be manipulated by adjusting the radius of disk and the slit width between disk and MIM waveguides. The transmittance and modulation depth of optical switch at 1550 nm are up to 64.82% and 17.70 d B, respectively. As a temperature sensor, its figure of merit can reach 30.46. In this paper, an optical switch with better efficiency and a temperature sensor with better sensitivity can be achieved.展开更多

Switch states of MC ...Based on the output-voltage error function, a novel time discrete modulation technique is proposed for matrix converters (MCs) and time-discrete difference equations of a MC circuit are derived. Switch states of MC are obtained when the output voltage error function is minimized, thus the optimum combination of switch states is derived for the closed-loop control of MC. Meanwhile, advantages of the least calculation workload, the simple process, and the convenient for implementation are brought while switch states are described as space vectors in the α-β coordination system. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the validity of the time-discrete modulation technique and the feasibility of the control approach.展开更多

The computing technology extends the control of the constant temperature from the local to the cloud, allowing the user to view the temperature status recorded by the cloud server using the smart phone application(App) or web browser. It can even remotely control the heating power of the smart switch for the heating device in the Internet control environment and use the proportional-integral-derivative(PID) control and the pulse-width modulation(PWM) technology to achieve intelligent constant temperature control.The proposed control system uses the expert PID control as the core to calculate the duty cycle of the PWM signal to control the power output of the smart switch for the constant temperature water tank. The experiment results verify the effectiveness of the proposed system.展开更多
