Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose and test a conceptual model that explains the interrelationships among perceived social support, loneliness, physical activity(PA), and quality of life(QoL) among acti...Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose and test a conceptual model that explains the interrelationships among perceived social support, loneliness, physical activity(PA), and quality of life(QoL) among active older adults in South Korea.Methods: Data were collected from 332 individuals over the age of 65 using a systematic stratified convenience sampling method. Survey data were collected and analyzed using a structural equation model(SEM).Results: Perceived social support had a significantly positive effect on PA(b = 0.14, p < 0.01) and QoL(b = 0.28, p < 0.001) while decreasing loneliness(b = —0.55, p < 0.001). PA had a significant positive effect on QoL(b = 0.12, p < 0.01), and loneliness had a negative effect on QoL(b = —0.37, p < 0.001). Loneliness mediated the relationship between perceived social support and QoL.Conclusion: The SEM results of the current study support the proposed model that explained the interrelationships among perceived social support, loneliness, PA, and QoL among active older adults in South Korea. These findings suggest the importance of incorporating social support mechanisms for PA interventions in order to enhance QoL. The findings of this study can help create more effective health and physical education programs for the older generations in South Korea to enhance their QoL.展开更多

This paper presents the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the deve...Life Cycle Costing (LCC) is always a major concern in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. This paper presents the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the development of a lifecycle cost-estimating tool. The IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) model as an interoperable building information model has been adopted as the central data repository to deliver the integrated information of building designs from CAD design systems into the lifecycle-costing database. In this paper, the conceptions and relevant factors, which could affect the LCC estimation, have been introduced. The problems of current LCC applications have been identified as the lack of LCC data and the complexity of LCC exercises. The software application of IFC models and relevant auxiliary are depicted as a solution of the problem identified. The lifecycle costing tool is a part of the nD Modeling tool and as such is based on its integrated interface prototype toolkit and is able to holistically present an IFC model into a 3D virtual reality view, a tree-view and a list of element properties. The functions and some technical points are also detailed in the paper. Through the research, it demonstrates the potential and possibility of implementing BIM methods and techniques, particularly IFCs to enhance the computer applications in the processes of building construction and facility management.展开更多
The prolonged thermal exposure with centrifugal load results in microstructural degradation,which ultimately leads to a reduction in the fatigue and creep resistance of the turbine blades.The present work proposes a m...The prolonged thermal exposure with centrifugal load results in microstructural degradation,which ultimately leads to a reduction in the fatigue and creep resistance of the turbine blades.The present work proposes a multi-scale framework to estimate the life reduction of turbine blades,which combines a microstructural degradation model,a two-phase constitutive model,and a microstructure-dependent fatigue and creep life reduction model.The framework with multi-scale models is validated by a Single Crystal(SC)Ni-based superalloy at the microstructural length-scale and is then applied to calculate the microstructural degradation and the fatigue and creep life reduction of turbine blades under two specific service conditions.The simulation results and quantitative analysis show that the microstructural degradation and fatigue and creep life reduction of the turbine blade are heavily influenced by the variations in the proportion of the intermediate state,namely,the maximum rotor speed status,in the two specific service conditions.The intermediate state accelerates the microstructural degradation and leads to a reduction of the life,especially the effective fatigue life reserve due to the higher temperature and rotational speed than that of the 93%maximum rotor speed status marked as the reference state.The proposed multi-scale framework provides a capable approach to analyze the reduction of the fatigue and creep life for turbine blade induced by microstructural degradation,which can assist to determine a reasonable Time Between Overhaul(TBO)of the engine.展开更多
