We study how the radial abundance gradients vary as a function of height above the plane and find that the metallicity ([α/Fe]) gra- dient becomes more positive (negative) with increasing height, changing sign around 1.5 kpc above the plane. At the largest vertical height (2 〈 丨z丨 〈 3 kpc), our simulated galaxy shows a positive radial metallicity gradient. We find that the positive metallicity gradient is caused by the age-metallicity and age-velocity dispersion relation, where younger stars have higher metallicity and lower velocity dispersion. Due to the age- velocity dispersion relation, a greater fraction of younger stars reaches 丨z丨 〉 2 kpc at the outer region, because of the lower gravitational restoring force of the disk, i.e. flaring. As a result, the fraction of younger stars with higher metallicity due to the age-metallicity relation becomes higher at the outer radii, which makes the median metallicity higher at the outer radii. Combining this result with the recently observed age-metallicity and age-velocity dispersion relation for the Milky Way thick disk stars suggested by Haywood et al., we argue that the observed (small) positive radial metal- licity gradient at large heights of the Milky Way disk stars can be explained by flaring of the younger thick and/or thin disk stars.展开更多

We develop a simple analytic model to understand the observed superwind phenomenon with a discussion of the model uncertainties. Our model is built upon the model of McKee & Ostriker for the interstellar medium. It allows one to predict how properties of a superwind, such as wind velocity and mass outflow rate, are related to properties of its starforming host galaxy, such as size, gas density and star formation rate. The model predicts a threshold of star formation rate density for the generation of observable galactic winds. Galaxies with more concentrated star formation activities produce superwinds with higher velocities. The predicted mass outflow rates are comparable to (or slightly larger than) the corresponding star formation rates. We apply our model to both local starburst galaxies and high-redshift Lyman break galaxies, and find its predictions to be in good agreement with current observations. Our model is simple and so can be easily incorporated into numerical simulations and semi-analytical models of galaxy formation.展开更多

Spectral energy distributions (SEDs) covering 15 intermediate bands are obtained for all sources detected down to V - 20 mag in a field of 58′× 58′. After star-galaxy separation with colorcolor diagrams, a photometric redshift technique is applied to the galaxy sample for further membership determination. The color-magnitude relation is taken as a further restriction of the early-type cluster galaxies. As a result, a list of 198 faint member galaxies is achieved. Based on the newly generated sample of member galaxies, the dynamical substructures, A98N, A98S, and A98W, are investigated in detail. A separate galaxy group, A98X, is also found to the south of the main concentration of A98, which is gravitationally unbound to A98. For 74 spectroscopically confirmed member galaxies, the environmental effect on the star formation history is investigated. The bright galaxies in the core region are found to have shorter time scales of star formation, longer mean stellar ages, and higher interstellar medium metallicities, which can be interpreted in the context of the hierarchical cosmological scenario.展开更多

We confirm the validity of some analytic formulae proposed earlier based on simplearguments. For rigid satellites represented by softened point masses, the merging time scale dependson both the orbital shape and concentration of the satellite. The dependence on orbital ellipticityis roughly a power law, as suggested by Lacey & Cole, and the dependence on satellite concentrationis similar to that proposed by White. When merging satellites are represented by non-rigid objects,Tidal effects must be considered. We found that material beyond the tidal radius are stripped off.The decrease in the satellite mass might mean an increase in the merging time scale, but in fact, the merging time is decreased, because the stripped-off material carries away a proportionatelylarger amount of of orbital energy and angular momentum.展开更多

Numerical experiments show that both models display regular motion together with extended chaotic regions. A detailed investigation of the properties of motion is made for the 2D and 3D Hamiltonian systems, using a number of different dynamical parameters, such as the Poincare′ surface of a section, the maximal Lyapunov Characteristic Exponent, the S(c) spectrum, the S(w) spectrum and the P (f ) indicator. The numerical calculations suggest that the properties of motion in both potentials are very similar. Our results show that one may use different kinds of gravitational potentials in order to describe the motion in triaxial galaxies while obtaining quantitatively similar results.展开更多

The current and future radio telescopes that we consider here are Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST), Baryon acoustic oscillations In Neutral Gas Observations(BINGO), and Square Kilometre Array phase Ⅰ(SKA-Ⅰ) single-dish experiments. We also forecast the combined constraints of the three radio telescopes with Planck. We find that the 1σ errors of(w0, wa) for BINGO, FAST and SKA-Ⅰ with respect to the fiducial values are respectively,(0.9293, 3.5792),(0.4083, 1.5878) and(0.3158, 0.4622). This is equivalent to(56.04%, 55.64%) and(66.02%, 87.09%) improvements in constraining(w0, wa) for FAST and SKA-Ⅰ respectively relative to BINGO. Simulations further show that SKA-Ⅰ will put more stringent constraints than both FAST and BINGO when each of the experiments is combined with Planck measurements. The 1σ errors for(w0, wa), BINGO + Planck, FAST + Planck and SKA-Ⅰ + Planck covariance matrices are respectively(0.0832, 0.3520),(0.0791, 0.3313) and(0.0678, 0.2679) implying there is an improvement in(w0, wa) constraints of(4.93%, 5.88%) for FAST + Planck relative to BINGO + Planck and an improvement of(18.51%, 23.89%) in constraining(w0, wa) for SKA-Ⅰ + Planck relative to BINGO + Planck. We also compared the performance of Planck data plus each single-dish experiment relative to Planck alone, and find that the reduction in(w0, wa) 1σ errors for each experiment plus Planck, respectively, imply the(w0, wa) constraints improvement of(22.96%, 8.45%),(26.76%, 13.84%) and(37.22%, 30.33%) for BINGO + Planck, FAST + Planck and SKA-Ⅰ + Planck relative to Planck alone. For the nine cosmological parameters in consideration, we find that there is a trade-off between SKA-Ⅰ and FAST in constraining cosmological parameters, with each experiment being more superior in constraining a particular set of parameters.展开更多

It is found that a monopole and dipole correction for the radial acceleration relation can better describe the SPARC data set. The monopole term is negligible but the dipole magnitude is significant. It is also found that the dipole correction is mostly induced by anisotropy in the acceleration scale. The magnitude of the g↑-dipole reaches 0.25±0.04, and its direction is aligned to (l,b)=(171.30°±7.18°,-15.41°±4.87°), which is very close to the maximum anisotropy direction from the hemisphere comparison method. Furthermore, a robust check shows that the dipole anisotropy could not be reproduced by an isotropic mock data set. However, it is still premature to claim that the Universe is anisotropic, due to the small data samples and uncertainty in the current observations.展开更多

It is a new theory of cosmology and the evolution of galaxies. Space and time are not two separate things, but two aspects of a single thing, “spacetime”. Whatever affects space, affects time, and vice-versa. If time speeds up, space must contract to maintain the speed of light, c, and when space thickens into a mass, it is harder to evolve forward, and time appears to slow. If spatial events are spinning as time passes, then the forward direction of time is spinning. This is Einstein’s curvature in the forward direction of time. Herein, the basis is outlined for time dilation cosmology in a spacetime/quantum continuum, including the time dilation-based derivation of the mass of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR), and time dilation formulas are derived for stellar system orbital, and galactic rotation, velocities, the force in time in Newtons, the Hamiltonian, the Hubble shift, the empirical gravitational constant, G, and other formulas, showing their direct relationship to the difference in the rate of time between the far distant observer’s invariant 1 s/s rate of time and the slower rate of time at the coordinate point, proving the universe is not composed of separate bodies moving through space, but is an evolving 3-dimensional holographic continuum containing varying densities evolving forward in the forward direction of time, the 4th dimension, at apparently different rates of time, the velocities merely being compensation for those slower rates of time in a continuum evolving forward overall at c, which is why light propagates at c, even from a moving source. As per General Relativity, if there is no rate of time difference between coordinate points, there is no gravitational attraction between those points, and no gravitationally induced velocity. This model resolves all the major conundrums in astrophysics, eliminating Dark Energy and Dark Matter, and ties astrophysics directly to quantum p展开更多

In this work, we solve the Poisson equation for non-Newtonian potentials of a spherically symmetric distribution of mass. Our numerical investigation shows that stars with angular momentum Lz less than or equal to a critical value Lzc, moving near the galactic plane, are scattered to higher z, when reaching the central region of the galaxy, thus displaying chaotic motion. An inverse square law relationship was found to exist between the radius of the bulge and the critical value Lzc of the angular momentum. On the other hand, a linear relationship exists between the mass of the nucleus and Lzc. The numerically obtained results are explained using theoretical arguments. Our study shows that there are connections between regular or chaotic motion and the physical parameters of the system, such as the star's angular momentum and mass, the scale length of the nucleus and the radius of the bulge. The results are compared with the outcomes of previous work.展开更多

Our model is simple and so can be easily incorporated into numerical simulations and semi-analytical models of galaxy formation.

文摘An optical photometric observation with the Beijing-Arizona-Taiwan- Connecticut (BATC) multicolor system is carried out for A98 (z =0.104), a galaxy cluster with two large enhancements in X-ray surface brightness. The bright galaxies in the core region are found to have shorter time scales of star formation, longer mean stellar ages, and higher interstellar medium metallicities, which can be interpreted in the context of the hierarchical cosmological scenario.

文摘We use controlled N-body simulation to investigate the dynamical processes(dynamical friction, tidal truncation, etc.) involved in the merging of small satellites into biggerhalos. We found that material beyond the tidal radius are stripped off.The decrease in the satellite mass might mean an increase in the merging time scale, but in fact, the merging time is decreased, because the stripped-off material carries away a proportionatelylarger amount of of orbital energy and angular momentum.

文摘An investigation on the possible dynamical models of the core galaxy NGC 1399 is performed.Because early-type galaxies are likely to be formed through merging events, remnant rings are considered in the modeling process.A numerical survey over three parameters is employed to obtain the best-fit models that are completely consistent with observations. It is found that the inner slope of the dark matter profile is cuspy for this core galaxy. The existence of remnant rings in best-fit models indicates a merging history. The remnant ring explains the flattened surface brightness and thus could be the physical counterpart of the core structure of NGC 1399.
文摘The trajectories of the groupings η Cha,∈Cha and Cha I,Cha II,constructed backward in time, have been studied. We concluded that the hypothesis about the joint formation of all four of these clusters from one molecular cloud cannot be completely excluded.However,10–15 Myr ago,all these four clusters were located at approximately the same height above the plane of the Galaxy. Thus, the gas-dust clouds from which all these four clusters were formed were located on one broad front. It is possible that the appearance of the Cha I,Cha II,∈Cha and η Cha clusters may be associated with the impact on such a front of shock waves formed after supernova explosions in the Scorpius–Centaurus association.New estimates of the kinematic ages of the clusters Cha I and Cha II are obtained as 0.12±0.19 and 0.05±0.15,respectively.It is shown that the minimum size of the Cha I-north and Cha I-south clusters corresponded to the time of 0.55±0.24 Myr and 0.04±0.18 Myr ago, respectively, and approximately1.5 Myr ago the distance between the trajectories of these two groupings was minimal.

文摘Using archival Fermi-LAT data with a time span of~12 yr,we study the population of Millisecond Pulsars(MSPs)in Globular Clusters(GlCs)and investigate their dependence on cluster dynamical evolution in the Milky Way.We show that theγ-ray luminosity(L_(γ))and emissivity(i.e.,ε_(γ)=L_(γ)/M,with M the cluster mass)are good indicators of the population and abundance of MSPs in GlCs,and they are highly dependent on the dynamical evolution history of the host clusters.Specifically speaking, the dynamically older GlCs with more compact structures are more likely to have larger L_(γ)andε_(γ),and these trends can be summarized as strong correlations with cluster stellar encounter rateΓand the specific encounter rate(Λ=Γ/M),with L_(γ)∝Γ^(0.7±0.11)andε_(γ)∝Λ^(0.73±0.13)for dynamically normal GlCs.However,as GlCs evolve into deep core collapse, these trends are found to be reversed, implying that strong encounters may have lead to the disruption of Low-Mass X-ray Binaries and ejection of MSPs from core-collapsed systems.Besides, the GlCs are found to exhibit largerε_(γ)with increasing stellar mass function slope(ε_(γ)∝10^((0.52±0.1)α)),decreasing tidal radius(ε_(γ)∝R_(t)^(-10±0.22))and distances from the Galactic Center(GC,ε_(γ)∝R_(gc)^(-1.13±0.21)).These correlations indicate that,as GlCs losing kinetic energy and spiral in toward the GC,tidal stripping and mass segregation have a preference in leading to the loss of normal stars from GlCs,while MSPs are more likely to concentrate to cluster center and be deposited into the GC.Moreover,we gaugeε_(γ)of GlCs is~10-1000 times larger than the Galactic bulge, the latter is thought to reside thousands of unresolved MSPs and may be responsible for the GC 7-ray excess, which supports that GlCs are generous contributors to the population of MSPs in the GC.
文摘We study the behavior of orbits in two different galactic dynamical models, describing the motion in the central parts of a triaxial elliptical galaxy with a dense nucleus. Our results show that one may use different kinds of gravitational potentials in order to describe the motion in triaxial galaxies while obtaining quantitatively similar results.

文摘We forecast the cosmological constraints of the neutral hydrogen(HI) intensity mapping(IM)technique with radio telescopes by assuming 1-year of observational time. For the nine cosmological parameters in consideration, we find that there is a trade-off between SKA-Ⅰ and FAST in constraining cosmological parameters, with each experiment being more superior in constraining a particular set of parameters.

文摘We report a possible dipole anisotropy in acceleration scale g↑ with 147 rotationally supported galaxies in the local Universe. However, it is still premature to claim that the Universe is anisotropic, due to the small data samples and uncertainty in the current observations.

文摘The second moment of the stellar velocity within the effective radius, denoted by σ^(2)_(e),is a crucial quantity in galaxy studies,as it provides insight into galaxy properties and their mass distributions. However, large spectroscopic surveys typically do not measure σ_(e) directly, instead providing σ_(aper),the second moment of the stellar velocity within a fixed fiber aperture. In this paper,we derive an empirical aperture correction formula, given byσ_(aper)/σ_(e)=(R_(aper)/R_(e))^(α),using spatially resolved stellar kinematics extracted from approximately 10,000 Sloan Digital Sky Survey-Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory integral field unit observations. Our analysis reveals a strong dependence ofαon the r-band absolute magnitude M_(r),g-i color, and Sérsic index nSer,whereαvalues are lower for brighter, redder galaxies with higher Sérsic indices. Our results demonstrate that the aperture correction derived from previous literature on early-type galaxies cannot be applied to predict the aperture corrections for galaxies with intermediate Sérsic indices. We provide a lookup table ofαvalues for different galaxy types, with parameters in the ranges of-18>M_(r)>-24,0.4<g-i<1.6,and 0<n_(Ser)<8.A Python script is provided to obtain the correction factors from the lookup table.
文摘This model ties gravitation and celestial mechanics and kinematics directly to time dilation. This model resolves all the major conundrums in astrophysics, eliminating Dark Energy and Dark Matter, and ties astrophysics directly to quantum p
文摘By adding an extra term to the Newtonian potential, matter outside the orbit of a star adds to the gravitational acceleration acting on that star. In this work, we solve the Poisson equation for non-Newtonian potentials of a spherically symmetric distribution of mass. We derive equations for calculating the centripetal acceleration and velocity of galactic disk stars that are due to the Newtonian and exponential potentials of the galaxy’s central bulge.
文摘We study the transition from regular to chaotic motion in a prolate elliptical galaxy dynamical model with a bulge and a dense nucleus. The results are compared with the outcomes of previous work.
