By using an operatortheoretic interpretation we extend some classic results for regular Sturm-Liouville problems and obtain asymptotic approximate formulae for eigenvalues and normalized eigenfunctions. We modify some techniques of [Fulton, C. T., Proc. Roy. Soc. Edin. 77 (A), 293-308 (1977)], [Walter, J., Math. Z., 133, 301-312 (1973)] and [Titchmarsh, E. C., Eigenfunctions Expansion Associated with Second Order Differential Equations I, 2nd edn., Oxford Univ. Pres, London, 1962], then by using these techniques we obtain asymptotic formulae for eigenelement norms and normalized eigenfunctions.展开更多

In the process of analysis, the tloating breakwater is assumed to be rigid, thin, vertical, and immovable and located in water with constant depth. The fluid domain is divided into two regions by imaginary interface. The velocity potential in each region is expanded by eigenfunction in the context of linear theory. By satisfying continuity of pressure and normal velocity across the imaginary fluid interface, a set of linear algebraic equations can be obtained to determine the unknown coefficients for eigenfunction expansions. The accuracy of the present model was verified by a comparison with existing results for the case of arc-shaped floating breakwater. Numerical results, in the form of contour maps of the non-dimensional wave amplitude around the breakwater and diffracted wave amplitude at typical sections, are presented for a range of wave and breakwater parameters. Results show that the sheltering effects on the arc-shaped floating perforated breakwater are closely related to the incident wavelength, the draft and the porosity of the breakwater.展开更多

Two kinds of completeness of the system of eigenvectors are proven, in terms of those of the compositions of two block operators in the off-diagonal operator matrices. Using these results, the double eigenfunction expansion method for solving upper triangular matrix differential systems is proposed. Moreover, we apply the method to the two-dimensional elasticity problem and the problem of bending of rectangular thin plates on elastic foundation.展开更多

文摘This paper deals with off-diagonal operator matrices and their applications in elasticity theory. Two kinds of completeness of the system of eigenvectors are proven, in terms of those of the compositions of two block operators in the off-diagonal operator matrices. Using these results, the double eigenfunction expansion method for solving upper triangular matrix differential systems is proposed. Moreover, we apply the method to the two-dimensional elasticity problem and the problem of bending of rectangular thin plates on elastic foundation.
