These self-illuminated “plasmas” are attracted to and may “feed on” electromagnetic radiation. They have different morphologies: 1) cone, 2) cloud, 3) donut, 4) spherical-cylindrical;and have been filmed flying towards and descending from the thermosphere into thunderstorms;congregating by the hundreds and interacting with satellites generating electromagnetic activity;approaching the Space Shuttles. Computerized analysis of flight path trajectories documents these plasmas travel at different velocities from different directions and change their angle of trajectory making 45°, 90°, and 180° shifts and follow each other. They’ve been filmed accelerating, slowing down, stopping, congregating, engaging in “hunter-predatory” behavior and intersecting plasmas leaving a plasma dust trail in their wake. Similar life-like behaviors have been demonstrated by plasmas created experimentally. “Plasmas” may have been photographed in the 1940s by WWII pilots (identified as “Foo fighters”);repeatedly observed and filmed by astronauts and military pilots and classified as Unidentified Aerial—Anomalous Phenomenon. Plasmas are not biological but may represent a form of pre-life that via the incorporation of elements common in space, could result in the synthesis of RNA. Plasmas constitute a fourth state of matter, are attracted to electromagnetic activity, and when observed in the lower atmosphere likely account for many of the UFO-UAP sightings over the centuries.展开更多

Dusty Williamson Nanofluid was considered due to its thermal properties and potential benefits of increasing the heat transfer rate. Firstly, partial differential equations are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations through a similarity variables transformation. The resulting set of dimensionless equations is solved analytically by using the Homogony Perturbation Method (HPM). The effects of the emerging parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are publicized through tables and graphs with appropriate discussions. The present result has been compared with published papers and found to be in agreement. To the best of author’s knowledge, there has been sparse research work in the literature that considers the effect of dust with Williamson Nanofluid and also solving the problem analytically. Therefore to the best of author’s knowledge, this is the first time analytical solution has been established for the problem. The results revealed that the fluid velocity of both the fluid and dust phases decreases as the Williamson parameter increases. Motivated by the above limitations and the gaps in past works, therefore, it is hoped that the present work will assist in providing accurate solutions to many practical problems in science, industry and engineering.展开更多

The dusty clouds are defined as the hybrid system of dust plume and cloud. The new method is based on transmittance measurements from surface-based instruments multi-filter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) and cloud parameters from lidar measurements. It uses the difference of absorption between dust aerosols and water droplets for distinguishing and estimating the optical properties of dusts and clouds, respectively. This new retrieval method is not sensitive to the retrieval error of cloud properties and the maximum absolute deviations of dust aerosol and total optical depths for thin dusty cloud retrieval algorithm are only 0.056 and 0.1, respectively, for given possible uncertainties. The retrieval error for thick dusty cloud mainly depends on lidar-based total dusty cloud properties.展开更多

Dusty clouds were defined as those mixed with dust aerosols or existing in dust aerosol conditions, while pure clouds were those in a dust-free environment. For dusty altocumulus clouds, the mean values of cloud optical depth (OPD), cloud liquid water path (LWP), cloud ice water path (IWP), cloud effective particle radius (Re), and cloud effective particle diameter (Dr) were 6.40, 40.23 g m-2, 100.70 g m-2, 8.76 μm, and 40.72 μm, respectively. For pure altocumulus clouds, the corresponding mean values were 9.28, 76.70 g m-2, 128.75 g m-2, 14.03 μm, and 48.92 μm, respectively. These results show a significant decrease of OPD, LWP, IWP, Re, and De of approximately 31%, 48%, 22%, 38%, and 17% because of the effects of dust aerosols. Moreover, the effects of dust aerosols on liquid-phase altocumulus clouds were greater than on ice-phase altocumulus clouds. Regarding dusty cirrus clouds, the mean values of OPD, IWP, and De were 5.11, 137.53 g in 2, and 60.44 μm, respectively. In contrast, the mean values were 6.69, 156.17 g m-2, and 66.63 μm, respectively, for pure cirrus clouds, with a 24% decrease in OPD, a 12% decrease in IWP, and a 9% decrease in De. These results indicate that dust aerosols can significantly change cloud properties, leading to a reduction of OPD, LWP, and effective particle size for both altocumulus and cirrus clouds in Northwest China.展开更多

The varying charge on the moving dust, as it moves in and out of regions of differing electron and ion densities (due to changes in the electrostatic potential), will be out of phase with the equilibrium charge. The effect of the dust is to increase the phase velocity of the ion-acoustic (IA) waves i.e. decrease the Landau damping. In the low-amplitude limit and weak damping, we apply the reductive perturbation method on the model that resulted to the complex cubic Ginzburg-Landau (CCGL) equation. From these results, it is observed that, the plasma parameters strongly influence the properties of the solitary wave solution namely, the amplitude and the width. The effects of non-isothermal electrons, gravity, dust charge fluctuations and drifting motion on the ion-acoustic solitary waves are discussed with application in astrophysical contexts. It is also observed that the number of charges residing on the dust grains increases the modulational stability of the plane waves in the plasma, thus, enhancing the generation of modulated waves.展开更多

The study considers the effects of frictional heating (viscous dissipation) and internal heat generation or ab- sorption. Dust particles are synthesized through chemical reaction of the filled gas mixture during discharge. Different patterns are formed in different stages of particle growth. In the early stage of particle growth, dust cloud can be formed by a large number of small particles, and its behavior appears to be fluid-like. Such interesting nonlinear phenomena as dust void and complex dust cloud patterns are observed in this stage. As dust particles grow, the particle size and structure can be controlled to follow two different routes. In one of the routes, the particles grow up in a ball-like shape and can be formed into regular lattice and cluster patterns. In the other, the particles grow up in a fractal shape.展开更多

The bulk modulus is calculated directly from its physical definition of the ratio of the internal pressure/stress to the volume strain. Under various conditions, the bulk moduli obtained agree with the previous theoretical derivations from completely different approaches. It is found that the bulk moduli of2D Yukawa solids and liquids are almost independent of the system temperature and the external compressional frequency.展开更多

These results indicate that dust aerosols can significantly change cloud properties, leading to a reduction of OPD, LWP, and effective particle size for both altocumulus and cirrus clouds in Northwest China.

The varying charge on the moving dust, as it moves in and out of regions of differing electron and ion densities (due to changes in the electrostatic potential), will be out of phase with the equilibrium charge. 文摘The present study shows that the Rayleigh–Taylor(RT)instability and its growth rate are strongly dependent on the charge-mass ratio of charged particles in a charged fluid.A higher charge-mass ratio of the charged fluid appears to result in a stronger effect of the magnetic field to suppress the RT instability. We study the RT instabilities for both dusty plasma(small chargemass ratio of charged particles)and ion-electron plasma(large charge-mass ratio of charged particles). It is found that the impact of the external magnetic field to suppress the RT instability for ion-electron plasma is much greater than that for dusty plasma. It is also shown that, for a dusty plasma,in addition to region parameters such as the external magnetic field, region length, its gradient,as well as dust particle parameters such as number density, mass, and charge of dust particles, the growth rate of the RT instability in a dusty plasma also depends on parameters of both electrons and ions such as the number densities and temperatures of both electrons and ions.

文摘A self-consistent fluid model is developed to investigate the radial distributions of dusty plasma parameters in a DC glow discharge,in which the extended fluid approach of plasma particles and the transport equations of dust particles are coupled. The electrical interaction between charged dust particles is considered in the model. The time evolution of radial distributions of dust density, plasma density, the radial component of electric field and the forces acting on dust particles when dust density tends to be stable, are obtained and analyzed under different discharge currents and dust particle radii. It is shown that the dust density structure is determined mainly by the radial electrostatic force, thermophoretic force and ion drag force in the discharge tube, and both discharge current and dust particle radius have an obvious effect on the transport processes of dust particles. The dust particles gather in the central region of the discharge tube for low discharge current and small dust radius, then dust voids are formed and become wider when the discharge current and dust radius increase. The plasma parameters in the dust gathering region are obviously affected by the dust particles due to the charging processes of electrons and ions to the dust surface.

文摘This article presents simulation results on the effects of neutral gas flow for nanoparticle transport in atmospheric-pressure,radio-frequency,capacitively-coupled,and acetylene discharge. The acetylene gas is set to flow into the chamber from the upper showerhead electrode. The internal energy of the gas medium therein is transferred into kinetic energy so the gas advection can be triggered. This is represented by the pressure volume work term of the gas energy converse equation. The gas advection leads to the gas temperature sink at the gas inlet, hence a large gas temperature gradient is formed. The thermophoresis relies on the gas temperature gradient, and causes the profile of nanoparticle density to vary from a double-peak structure to a single-peak one.The gas advection influences the properties of electron density and temperature as well and causes the drift-ambipolar mode profile of electron density asymmetric. In the bulk region,i.e.away from the inlet, the gas advection is more like one isovolumetric compression, which slightly increases the temperature of the gas medium at consuming its kinetic energy.

文摘Langevin dynamical simulations are performed to determine the bulk modulus in twodimensional(2D) dusty plasmas from uniform periodic radial compressions. The bulk modulus is calculated directly from its physical definition of the ratio of the internal pressure/stress to the volume strain. Under various conditions, the bulk moduli obtained agree with the previous theoretical derivations from completely different approaches. It is found that the bulk moduli of2D Yukawa solids and liquids are almost independent of the system temperature and the external compressional frequency.
文摘Boundary layer flows and melting heat transfer of a Prandtl fluid over a stretching surface in the presence of fluid particle suspensions has been investigated. The converted set of boundary layer equations are solved numerically by RKF-45 method.Obtained numerical results for flow and heat transfer characteristics are deliberated for various physical parameters.Furthermore, the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are also presented in Tabs.2 and 3.It is found that the heat transfer rates are advanced in occurrence of nonlinear radiation compered to linear radiation. Also,it is noticed that velocity and temperature profile increases by increasing Prandtl parameter.

文摘In this work, for the first time,we have analyzed and compared the responses of polar mesosphere winter echoes(PMWE)and their summer counterpart, polar mesosphere summer echoes(PMSE),to high-frequency(HF)heating in terms of modulated characteristics(i.e.,backscatter intensity reduction, recovery, and overshoot). Both PMWE and PMSE observations were from the same site(Tromsφ,Norway;69.6°N,19.2°E)and radar(EISCAT[European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association]very high frequency,224 MHz).The heating patterns of both PMWE and PMSE were found to be similar;however,PMSE was more greatly affected by HF heating.Polar mesosphere summer echoes showed recovery and overshoot more frequently than did PMWE.In addition, the mean recovery and overshoot of PMSE were greater than those of PMWE.The associated electron temperature enhancement was estimated for both PMWE and PMSE and showed that, compared with PMWE,the electron temperature enhancement was more significant in PMSE.The strong heating effects on PMSE may be due to the considerable increase in electron temperature.
