An analysis of polymer materials behavior under cutting forces load was presented.The analysis was accomplished taking into account the existence and interaction of micro cracks in material.On the basis of modeling re...An analysis of polymer materials behavior under cutting forces load was presented.The analysis was accomplished taking into account the existence and interaction of micro cracks in material.On the basis of modeling representations of a polymeric material behavior at cutting the method of preliminary mechanical destruction a superficial layer of polymeric material was developed.The essence of the method consists in producing micro-cracks in form of blind holes on the upper layer of blanks before turning.The aim of this method is a plastic deformation zones creation under stresses interaction occurring at the adjacent crack apexes.Results of experimental researches of fabric-based laminate turning processing according to the offered method were submitted.The analysis of the received results confirms expediency of application of the given combined method and the decrease of a roughness on the processed surface of fabric-based laminate is testifying about it.展开更多

The fabrication processes such as ...Measurement of residual stress is significant to ensure safety, reliability and the life of composites, and currently has been a hot issue in scientific research. The fabrication processes such as machining, and heat treatment inherit either kind of residual stress which had either positive consequences or negative ones, for example, the fatigue limit of a component enhances by compressive stress, whereas corrosion resistance gets reduced by tensile stress. This study is aimed at a brief overview of the recent advancement in this field to help researchers in the in-depth study of measuring residual stress. It helps them in selecting the most appropriate techniques among destructive methods i.e., mainly Contour, ring core, deep hole-drilling method, and non-destructive techniques i.e., diffraction, ultrasonic method, depending on their requirements and applications. For each available technique, working methodology, physical limitations, and applications are discussed. At the end of this paper, future trends regarding an assessment of residual stress have been forecasted.展开更多

NDT methods contribute to the damage tolerance philosophy used in theaircraft design methodology as well as many other operation and maintenance programsof machinery and constructions. The following study is focusing on overviewing animportant group of NDT methods: the optical and other ones, which found broadapplicability in scientific and industrial studies nowadays. The paper discusses theselected most widely applicable methods, namely, visual testing, ultrasonic testing,radiographic testing, infrared thermography as well as electronic speckle patterninterferometry and shearographic testing. Besides the basic principles of testing usingthese methods, their potential applications in various industrial and technologicalbranches are broadly discussed. The analysis as categorization of the NDT methodsprovided in this paper may help in selection of such methods in diagnosis of varioustypes of structures and defects and damage occurring in these structures.展开更多

This study aims to examine some of the rock properties of quartz-mica schist(QMS) rocks in a cost-effective manner by establishing correla...Physico-mechanical properties are critically important parameters for rocks. This study aims to examine some of the rock properties of quartz-mica schist(QMS) rocks in a cost-effective manner by establishing correlations between non-destructive and destructive tests. Using simple regression analysis, good correlations were obtained between the pulse wave velocities and the properties of QMS rocks. The results were further improved by using multiple regression analysis as compared to those obtained by the simple linear regression analysis. The results were also compared to the ones obtained by other empirical equations available. The general equations encompassing all types of rocks did not give reliable results of rock properties and showed large relative errors, ranging from 23% to 1146%. It is suggested that empirical correlations must be investigated separately for different types of rocks. The general empirical equations should not be used for the design and planning purposes before they are verified at least on one rock sample from the project site, as they may contain large unacceptable errors.展开更多
