Purpose–This study aims to introduce the achievements and benefits of applying wheel/rail-force–based maintenance interval extension of the C80 series wagon in China.Design/methodology/approach–Chinese wagons’exis...Purpose–This study aims to introduce the achievements and benefits of applying wheel/rail-force–based maintenance interval extension of the C80 series wagon in China.Design/methodology/approach–Chinese wagons’existing maintenance strategy had left a certain safety margin for the characteristics of widely running range,unstable service environment and submission to transportation organization requirements.To reduce maintenance costs,China railway(CR)has attempted to extend the maintenance interval since 2020.The maintenance cycle of C80 series heavy haul wagons is extended by three months(no stable routing)or 50,000 km(regular routing).However,in the meantime,the alarming rate of the running state,a key index to reflect the severe degree of hunting stability,by the train performance detection system(TPDS)for the C80 series heavy haul wagons has increased significantly.Findings–The present paper addresses a big data statistical way to evaluate the risk of allowing the C80 series heavy haul wagons to remain in operation longer than stipulated by the maintenance interval initial set.Through the maintenance and wayside-detectordata,whichis divided intothreestages,the extension period(three months),the current maintenance period and the previous maintenance period,this method reveals the alarming rate of hunting was correlated with maintenance interval.The maintainability of wagons will be achieved by utilizing wagon performance degradation modeling with the state of the wheelset and the often-contact side bearing.This paper also proposes a statistical model to return to the average safety level of the previous maintenance period’s baseline through correct alarming thresholds for unplanned corrective maintenance.Originality/value–The paper proposes an approach to reduce safety risk due to maintenance interval extension by effective maintenance program.The results are expected to help the railway company make the optimal solution to balance safety and the economy.展开更多
Wetlands provide vital ecological services for both humans and environment,necessitating continuous,refined and up-to-date mapping of wetlands for conservation and management.in this study,we developed an automated an...Wetlands provide vital ecological services for both humans and environment,necessitating continuous,refined and up-to-date mapping of wetlands for conservation and management.in this study,we developed an automated and refined wetland mapping framework integrating training sample migration method,supervised machine learning and knowledge-driven rules using Google Earth Engine(GEE)platform and open-source geospatial tools.We applied the framework to temporally dense Sentinel-1/2 imagery to produce annual refined wetland maps of the Dongting Lake Wetland(DLW)during 2015-2021.First,the continuous change detection(CCD)algorithm was utilized to migrate stable training samples.Then,annual 10 m preliminary land cover maps with 9 classes were produced using random forest algorithm and migrated samples.Ultimately,annual 10 m refined wetland maps were generated based on preliminary land cover maps via knowledge-driven rules from geometric features and available water-related inventories,with Overall Accuracy(OA)ranging from 81.82%(2015)to 93.84%(2020)and Kappa Coefficient(KC)between 0.73(2015)and 0.91(2020),demonstrating satisfactory performance and substantial potential for accurate,timely and type-refined wetland mapping.Our methodological framework allows rapid and accurate monitoring of wetland dynamics and could provide valuable information and methodological support for monitoring,conservation and sustainable development of wetland ecosystem.展开更多

An order nine p-stable scheme is developed which was used to solve the third order initial value problems in ordinary differential equation without first reducing to a system of first order equations. The control of the kappa number is carried out mainly in the top of the digester, therefore it is important to get some indication of this analysis beforehand. In this context, the aim of this work was to obtain a prediction model of the kappa number in advance to the laboratory results. This paper proposes a new approach using the Box & Jenkins methodology to develop a dynamic model for predicting the kappa number from a Kamyr continuous digester from an eucalyptus Kraft pulp mill in Brazil. With a database of 1500 observations over a period of 30 days of operation, some ARMA models were studied, leading to the choice of ARMA (1, 2) as the best forecasting model. After fitting the model, we performed validation with a new set of data from 30 days of operation, achieving a model of 2.7% mean absolute percent error.展开更多

To calculate the radioactivity of product nuclides generated in pulse irradiation, it is generally assumed that the irradiation is approximately continuous in the entire irradiation period(ti) and the flux of the inco...To calculate the radioactivity of product nuclides generated in pulse irradiation, it is generally assumed that the irradiation is approximately continuous in the entire irradiation period(ti) and the flux of the incoming irradiation particle can be obtained by averaging their intensity in each pulse period(T). However, this approximation fails to acknowledge the fact that the product nuclides are not created in each pulse period(T)evenly: They are only produced in a very short pulse width(tp) and then decay in a relatively long rest time(tr = T-tp). Given by the enormous number of pulses, the sum of these decays may not be negligible. To make the activity calculation in accordance with the real situation in pulse irradiation, we scrutinize the details of irradiation and decay processes in each pulse, apply the geometric series to obtain the activity superimposition of millions of pulses,and derive a novel activity equation particularly suitable for pulse irradiation. The experimental results,numerical simulations,and activity measurements from photon activation driven by a pulsed electron LINAC have confirmed the validity of this new equation. The comparison between the new and traditional equations indicates that their discrepancy could be significant under certain conditions. The limitations of the new activity equation for pulse irradiation are discussed as well.展开更多
