The yield strength and the toughness of the steel with various prior austenite grain sizes were tested and correlated with microstructure characteristics. Results show that both the prior austenite grain size and the martensitic packet size in the 17CrNiMo6 steel follow a HalI-Petch relation with the yield strength. When the prior austenite grain size was refined from 199 μm to 6 μm , the yield strength increased by 235 MPa, while the Charpy U-notch impact energy at 77 K improved more than 8 times, indicating that microstructure refinement is more effective in improving the resistance to cleavage fracture than in increasing the strength. The fracture surfaces implied that the unit crack path for cleavage fracture is identified as being the packet.展开更多

In this work, we introduce a successful experimental approach to fabricate monolayer phosphorene by mechanical cleavage and a subsequent Ar* plasma thinning process. The thickness of phosphorene is unambiguously determined by optical contrast spectra combined with atomic force microscopy (AFM). Raman spectroscopy is used to characterize the pristine and plasma-treated samples. The Raman frequency of the A2g mode stiffens, and the intensity ratio of A2g to Alg modes shows a monotonic discrete increase with the decrease of phosphorene thickness down to a monolayer. All those phenomena can be used to identify the thickness of this novel two-dimensional semiconductor. This work on monolayer phosphorene fabrication and thickness determination will facilitate future research on phosphorene.展开更多

In terms of the calculated results, the commonly exposed surfaces of the two minerals were predicted and the relations between surface broken bonds densities and surface energies were analyzed. Then the anisotropic wettability of the commonly exposed surfaces was studied by means of contact angle measurement. The calculation results show that the (101^-4), (213^-4)and (01 1^-8)surfaces for calcite and (111) for fluorite are the most commonly exposed surfaces and there is a good rectilinear relation between surface broken bond density and surface energy with correlation of determination (R^2) of 0.9613 and 0.9969, respectively. The anisotropic wettability of different surfaces after immersing in distilled water and sodium oleate solutions at different concentrations can be explained by anisotropic surface broken bond densities and active Ca sites densities, respectively.展开更多

In terms of the calculation results, the cleavage natures of these minerals were analyzed, and the relationship between surface broken bonds density and surface energy was also established. The results show that the surface broken bonds properties could be used to predict the cleavage nature of most of minerals, and the predicted cleavage planes agree well with those reported in previous literature. Moreover, this work explored a rule that, surface broken bonds density is directly related to surface energy with determination coefficient(R2) of over 0.8, indicating that the former is a dominant factor to determine the latter. Therefore, anisotropic surface broken bonds density can be used to predict the stability of mineral surface and the reactivity of surface atoms.展开更多

Reactive oxygen species(ROS) are the unavoidable consequence of cell oxidative metabolism. ROS play a crucial part in regulating biological and physiological processes, whereas excessive intracellular ROS usually lead to the oxidation stress which has implications in several typical diseases such as cancer, inflammation and atherosclerosis. Therefore,ROS-responsive DDSs have elicited widespread popularity for their promising applications in a series of biomedical research because the payload is only released in targeted cells or tissues that overproduce ROS. According to the design of ROS-responsive DDSs, the main release mechanisms of therapeutic agents can be ascribed to ROS-induced carrier solubility change, ROS-induced carrier cleavage or ROS-induced prodrug linker cleavage. This review summarized the latest development and novel design of ROS-responsive DDSs and discussed their design concepts and the applications in the biomedical field.展开更多

However, it fails to explain large strain deformation that widely occurs in nature. There is presently a new theory, the MEMC, which is mathematically expressed as Meff = ((σ1-σ3) L.sin 2α sin α)/2, where σ1-σ3 represents the yield strength of the related rock, L is a unit length and a is the angle between σ1 and deformation bands. This criterion demonstrates that the maximum value appears at angles of ±54.7° to σ1 and there is a slight difference in the moment in the range of 55°±10°. The range covers the whole observations available from nature and experiments. Its major implications include: (1) it can be used to determine the stress state when the related deformation features formed; (2) it provides a new approach to determine the Wk of the related ductile shear zone if only the ratio of the vorticity and strain rate remains fixed; (3) It can be used to explain (a) the obtuse angle in the contraction direction of conjugate kink-bands and extensional crenulation cleavages, (b) formation of low-angle normal faults and high-angle reverse faults, (c) lozenge ductile shear zones in basement terranes, (d) some crocodile structures in seismic profiles and (e) detachment folds in foreland basins.展开更多

DMS and DMSP play important roles in driving the global sulfur cycle and may affect climate. DMSP is proposed to serve as an osmolyte, a grazing deterrent, a signaling molecule, an antioxidant, a cryoprotectant and/or as a sink for excess sulfur. It was long believed that only marine eukaryotes such as phytoplankton produce DMSP. However, we recently discovered that marine heterotrophic bacteria can also produce DMSP, making them a potentially important source of DMSP. At present, one prokaryotic and two eukaryotic DMSP synthesis enzymes have been identified.Marine heterotrophic bacteria are likely the major degraders of DMSP, using two known pathways: demethylation and cleavage. Many phytoplankton and some fungi can also cleave DMSP. So far seven different prokaryotic and one eukaryotic DMSP lyases have been identified. This review describes the global distribution pattern of DMSP and DMS, the known genes for biosynthesis and cleavage of DMSP, and the physiological and ecological functions of these important organosulfur molecules, which will improve understanding of the mechanisms of DMSP and DMS production and their roles in the environment.展开更多
