Two recent versions ...This paper reviews recent progress in the development of the Beijing Climate Center Climate System Model (BCC_CSM) and its four component models (atmosphere, land surface, ocean, and sea ice). Two recent versions are described: BCC_CSMI.1 with coarse resolution (approximately 2.8125°× 2.8125°) and BCC_CSMI.I(m) with moderate resolution (approximately 1.125°×1.125°). Both versions are fully cou- pled climate-carbon cycle models that simulate the global terrestrial and oceanic carbon cycles and include dynamic vegetation. Both models well simulate the concentration and temporal evolution of atmospheric CO2 during the 20th century with anthropogenic CO2 emissions prescribed. Simulations using these two versions of the BCC_CSM model have been contributed to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase five (CMIP5) in support of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (1PCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). These simulations are available for use by both national and international communities for investigating global climate change and for future climate projections. Simulations of the 20th century climate using BCC-CSMI.1 and BCC_CSMI.I(m) are presented and validated, with particular focus on the spatial pattern and seasonal evolution of precipitation and surface air temperature on global and continental scales. Simulations of climate during the last millennium and projections of climate change during the next century are also presented and discussed. Both BCC_CSMI.1 and BCC_CSMI.I(m) perform well when compared with other CMIP5 models. Preliminary analyses in- dicate that the higher resolution in BCC CSMI.I(m) improves the simulation of mean climate relative to BCC_CSMI.1, particularly on regional scales.展开更多

This paper ...In the last five years, China has seen the technological development of intelligent mining and the application of the longwall automation technology developed by the Longwall Automation Steering Committee. This paper summarizes this great achievement, which occurred during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), and which included the development of a set of intelligent equipment for hydraulic-powered supports, information transfers, dynamic decision-making, performance coordination, and the achievement of a high level of reliability despite difficult conditions. Within China, the intelligent system of a set of hydraulic-powered supports was completed, with our own intellectual property rights. An intelligent mining model was developed that permitted unmanned operation and single-person inspection on the work face. With these technologies, the number of miners on the work face can now be significantly reduced. Miners are only required to monitor mining machines on the roadway or at the surface control center, since intelligent mining can be applied to extract middle-thick or thick coal seams. As a result, miners' safety has been improved. Finally, this Darter discusses theprospects and challenges of intelligent mining over the next ten years.展开更多
In this paper,the impact of the Taiwan Island topography on the structure change and motion of Typhoon Dot(9017)during its crossing the Taiwan Island is studied with a modified version of a JMA operational regional mo...In this paper,the impact of the Taiwan Island topography on the structure change and motion of Typhoon Dot(9017)during its crossing the Taiwan Island is studied with a modified version of a JMA operational regional model(Japan spectral model,JSM).A series of sensitivity experiments are conducted to detect the forming and developing mechanism of an island-induced cyclone.Results show that lee side low pressure center plays a very important role in the formation of the induced-cyclone while a typhoon is approaching a large island with high mountains.The position and intensity of the induced cyclone is sensitive to the height and location of island mountain,intensity of TC and under- lying surface topography distribution as well.A preliminary formation criterion of the island-induced cyclone is obtained.展开更多
