The complex with a two-dimensional(2D) layer structure contains an inf...A novel nitro-coordinated potassium compound [K(Htdc)(H_2O)]_n(tdc = 3-nitro-thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylate), has been synthesized and characterized. The complex with a two-dimensional(2D) layer structure contains an infinite K-O ladder-shaped chain, which is connected through carboxyl and unusual nitro-coordination of Htdc– anion. Then the 2D layers are further extended by intermolecular hydrogen-bonding to form a three-dimensional(3D) supramoleculalr network. Variable temperature powder X-ray diffractions, thermogravimetric analysis and nuclear magnetic resonance studies exhibit that the compound has a thermal-induced decarboxylative behavior.展开更多

It might as well be a ki...Suicide is a universal human phenomenon and seems to be a multipurpose behaviour which occurs in a number of different situations that not necessarily have to do with mental distress/disorder. It might as well be a kind of defence of a threatened self-image or revenge or punishment or weapon in a struggle for something more important than the own life. Is there a suicidal virus or meme nested in the human mind? Maybe it is the mere idea of suicide as an alternative way of dealing with a number of human dilemmas that should be the focus of our suicide preventive efforts? Suicide ideas are common in most populations, but ideas are just ideas. It is when the ideas—the suicidal thoughts—are converted to actions that they become dangerous. The focus for our suicide preventive work should be to counteract a destructive use of suicidal ideation. So, the crucial question is thus: how do we do that?展开更多

The core member of the specimens was a...In this study, seven pinned double-rectangular tube assembled buckling-restrained brace (DRT-ABRB) specimens were experimentally charaeterised by means of an axial cyclic test. The core member of the specimens was a single flat-plate. Two rectangular tubes were assembled using high strength bolts to form an external restraining member. Each rectangular tube was composed of an external steel channel and a cover plate. A gap or thin rubber filler was set between the core and the external restraining member to form an unbonded layer. The influence of several design parameters on the failure mode and energy dissipation capacity of the ABRB was investigated, including the height of the core wing plate, thickness of the external cover plate, and height of the external channel flange. This experimental study demonstrated that a local pressure-bearing failure at the end of the external member arises when the external cover plate is too thin or if the end construction detail is unreasonable. When the end rotations of the DRT-ABRB were restricted, the hysteretic performance was shown to be superior to that of a pure pinned DRT-ABRB. Finally, all the tested DRT-ABRBs exhibited excellent energy dissipation performance which amply satisfied existing regulation requirements.展开更多

This research presents a methodology,to calculate the amount of physical activity during the transportation.It contains the following steps:(1)trip and activity detection(2)speed calculation(3)splitting trips into tri...This research presents a methodology,to calculate the amount of physical activity during the transportation.It contains the following steps:(1)trip and activity detection(2)speed calculation(3)splitting trips into trip-leg(4)transportation mode detection and(5)physical activity calculation.The Global Positioning System is used to record the transport activities,either single mode or multimode.During the trip execution,the travel behaviour and the travel mode are also observed to obtain the physical activity levels.The physical activity levels are calculated by taking the ratio of the Total Energy Expenditure and the Basal Metabolic Rate.To obtain the results,an automated system is presented which calculates the speed and also detects the mode of each trip-leg.It also calculates the amount of physical activity.The obtained physical activity levels for the recorded 1750 trips are unit less and range from 1.10 to 2.00.By using the motorized transportation mode,the physical activity levels stay low and the subject failed to achieve the recommended health guideline.The minimum value for the moderate level of physical activity is 1.6.The requirement can be fully achieved when the transportation mode is active i.e.walking,cycling,and performed at moderate intensity level for at least 30 min a day.展开更多
