Computer programs INC-PHATRAN and INDUCTER-B were formerly developed by the authors for the calculation of hardness profiles after heat treatment processes of low alloy and carbon steels. The first one simulates quenching as well as through hardening operations, and the second one models electromagnetic induction heat treatments processes. These codes make use of the SAE Standard 3406 in order to obtain the hardness profile, with enhanced regression coefficients recently obtained by the authors. The present work broadens the field of application of this method, allowing to apply it for low hardenability tool steels such as the ASTM O1 Tool Steel. The method used for the calculation of the hardness profile is here summarized, and an example of application is described, which shows good correspondence between the calculated and measured values.展开更多
The G93A-SOD1 mice model and MRI diffusion as a preclinical tool to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS): ALS is a progressive neurological disease characterized primarily by the development of limb paralysis,...The G93A-SOD1 mice model and MRI diffusion as a preclinical tool to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS): ALS is a progressive neurological disease characterized primarily by the development of limb paralysis, which eventually leads to lack of control on muscles under voluntary control and death within 3–5 years. Genetic heterogeneity and environmental factors play a critical role in the rate of disease progression and patients display faster declines once the symptoms have manifested. Since its original discovery, ALS has been associated with pathological alterations in motor neurons located in the spinal cord (SC), where neuronal loss by a mutation in the protein superoxide dismutase in parenthesis (mSOD1) and impairment in axonal connectivity, have been linked to early functional impairments. In addition,mechanisms of neuroinflammation, apoptosis, necroptosis and autophagy have been also implicated in the development of this disease. Among different animal models developed to study ALS, the transgenic G93A-SOD1 mouse has become recognized as a benchmark model for preclinical screening of ALS therapies. Furthermore, the progressive alterations in the locomotor phenotype expressed in this model closely resemble the progressive lower limb dysfunction of ALS patients. Among other imaging tools, MR diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has emerged as a crucial, noninvasive and real time neuroimaging tool to gather information in ALS. One of the current concerns with the use of DTI is the lack of biological validation of the microstructural information given by this technique. Although clinical studies using DTI can provide a remarkable insight on the targets of neurodegeneration and disease course,they lack histological correlations. To address these shortcomings, preclinical models can be designed to validate the microstructural information unveiled by this particular MRI technique. Vendor lock-in can occur at any layer of the cloud stack-Infrastructure,Platform,and Software-as-a-service.This paper covers the vendor lock-in issue at Platform as a Service(PaaS)level where applications can be creat...Vendor lock-in can occur at any layer of the cloud stack-Infrastructure,Platform,and Software-as-a-service.This paper covers the vendor lock-in issue at Platform as a Service(PaaS)level where applications can be created,deployed,and managed without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.These applications and their persisted data on one PaaS provider are not easy to port to another provider.To overcome this issue,we propose a middleware to abstract and make the database services as cloud-agnostic.The middleware supports several SQL and NoSQL data stores that can be hosted and ported among disparate PaaS providers.It facilitates the developers with data portability and data migration among relational and NoSQL-based cloud databases.NoSQL databases are fundamental to endure Big Data applications as they support the handling of an enormous volume of highly variable data while assuring fault tolerance,availability,and scalability.The implementation of the middleware depicts that using it alleviates the efforts of rewriting the application code while changing the backend database system.A working protocol of a migration tool has been developed using this middleware to facilitate the migration of the database(move existing data from a database on one cloud to a new database even on a different cloud).Although the middleware adds some overhead compared to the native code for the cloud services being used,the experimental evaluation on Twitter(a Big Data application)data set,proves this overhead is negligible.展开更多
Correspondence factor analysis(CFA)was used in conjunction with linear regression analysis to examine the structure-activity relationships of 50 benzene derivatives tested on Pimephales promelas.From nine molecular de...Correspondence factor analysis(CFA)was used in conjunction with linear regression analysis to examine the structure-activity relationships of 50 benzene derivatives tested on Pimephales promelas.From nine molecular descriptors(numbers of C,H,O,N,Br,Cl,NO_2,OH,and NH_2 included in the molecules),CFA made it possible to define five new independent variables which were introduced in a stepwise regression analysis procedure to describe the acute toxicity(96-h LC_(50))of the aromatic compounds.The model log 1/C=-0.727F_1+1.248F_3+4.052(r=0.918; s=0.270)is more relevant to describe the ecotoxicological behavior of the studied compounds on the fathead minnow than that obtained with principal components(log 1/C=0.151 PC_1 -0.271 PC_2+4.124;r=0.737;s=0.460).The heuristic potency of this particular statistical analysis,which is called stochastic regression analysis,is discussed in detail.1989 Academic Press,Inc.展开更多
