Then PMMA/ACNTs composites have been synthesized by in-situ polymerization. The SEM results show that carbon nanotubes are well dispersed and directionally arranged in the composites. The electrical conductivities of the parallel direction (parallel with ACNTs) and perpendicular direction (perpendicular with ACNTs) of composites were respectively tested to be 15 S·cm-1 and 4 S·cm-1, so the composites were conductivity anisotropic. Compared with PMMA, the thermal stable temperature of composites in air was improved by 100 ℃,and the thermal con- ductivity of composites was 13.64 times of PMMA.展开更多

The effects of ammonia and nitrogen as carrier gases on the structure and morphology of CNTs were investigated. Transmission electron microscope (TEM), high-resolution electron microscope (HRTEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed to characterize the products and the catalyst. Experiment results show that the CNTs grown in N2 gas exhibited cylindrical and tubular structure, while a bamboo-like structure was observed for the CNTs grown in NH3 gas. Moreover, vertically aligned CNTs were obtained on an A12O3 disk when NH3 was used as the carrier gas. The carrier gas also exerted influence on the shape of the catalyst. Based on the theory of active centers of catalysis and combined with the particle shape of the catalyst, a growth model for the vertically aligned CNTs on the substrate is given.展开更多

The mechanical properties of the laminar SACNT/Ni composites were substantially improved compared with those of pure nickel. With increasing content of SACNTs, the tensile strength of the composite increased and the elongation decreased because of the high-strength SACNTs bearing part of an applied load and the fine-grained strengthening mechanism. The nanohardness of the SACNT/Ni composites was improved from 3.92 GPa(pure nickel) to 4.62 GPa(Ni-4 vol%SACNTs). The uniform distribution of SACNTs in the composites and strong interfacial bonding between the SACNTs and the nickel matrix resulted in an improvement of the mechanical properties of the SACNT/Ni composites. The introduced SACNTs refined the nickel grains, increased the amount of crystal twins, and changed the preferred orientation of grain growth.展开更多
