It is useful and meaningful to prospectively analyze the manner in which frailty predicts short-term outcomes for elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods Patients aged 〉 65 years, with diagnosis of ACS from cardiology department and geriatrics department were included from single-center. Clinical data including geriatrics syndromes were collected using Comprehensive Geriatrics Assessment. Frailty was defined according to the Clinical Frailty Scale and the impact of the co-morbidities on risk was quantified by the coronary artery disease (CAD)--specific index. Patients were followed up by clinical visit or telephone consultation and the median follow-up time is 120 days. Following-up items included all-cause mortality, unscheduled return visit, in-hospital and recurrent major adverse cardiovascular events. Multivariable regression survival analysis was performed using Cox regression. Results Of the 352 patients, 152 (43.18%) were considered frail according to the study instrument (5-7 on the scale), and 93 (26.42%) were considered moderately or se- verely frail (6-7 on the scale). Geriatrics syndromes including incontinence, fall history, visual impairment, hearing impairment, constipation, chronic pain, sleeping disorder, dental problems, anxiety or depression, and delirium were more frequently in frail patients than in non-frail patients (P = 0.000, 0.031, 0.009, 0.014, 0.000, 0.003, 0.022, 0.000, 0.074, and 0.432, respectively). Key causes of engine removals were analyzed, and the life limit due to performance deterioration was predicted by proportional hazards model. Then the scheduled removal causes were considered as constraints of engine life to predicte the finai life on wing. Although the unscheduled downtime(USDT) issues of the equipment are very complex, the self-organized criticality(SOC) is the right theory to study complex systems evolution and opens up a new window to the investigation of disasters, such as the sudden failure of the equipment. Firstly,SOC theory and its validation method are introduced. Then an SOC validation method for USDT of the equipment is proposed based on the above theory. Case study is done on bottleneck equipment in a factory and corresponding data pre-process work is done. The rescaled-range(R/S) analysis method is used to calculate the Hurst exponent of USDT time-series data in order to determine the long-range correlation of USDT data on time scale;at the same time the spatial power-law characteristic of USDT time series data is studied. The result shows that the characteristics of SOC are revealed in USDT data of the equipment according to the criterion of SOC. In addition, based on the characteristics of SOC,the overall framework of the prediction method for major sudden failure of the equipment is proposed based on SOC.展开更多

The Government of In...This paper proposes a novel price based load frequency control scheme for a two area system, using an Unscheduled Interchange (UI) price signal, which is ideal and suitable for electricity market. The Government of India has introduced Availability Based Tariff (ABT) structure with an intention of ensuring grid security and to regulate grid indiscipline through Central Electricity Regulatory Commission Regulation. After the introduction of this regulation, the over or under injection by the generating companies (GENCOs) during off peak or peak hours are demoralized and the frequency is maintained at the nominal value. In this paper, the GENCOs instead of reacting to this price signal manually, an automated mode of frequency control is deployed in each area using UI price signal to achieve fast response to load change. The Distribution Company (DISCO) Participation Matrix (DPM) has also been employed in this work to relate the scenario under deregulation of electricity market. The proposed scheme has been verified for different cases by simulating it on a two area system, each having four GENCOs and one DISCO in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. From the results, it is clearly observed that if the proposed method is employed by all GENCOs, it will certainly enhance the control of system frequency and at the same time throw down the UI liability of market participants. It also ensures that the GENCOs and DISCOs strictly adhere to the bilateral contract following the DISCO participation matrix.展开更多

The Se levels in serum, hair and activity of GSH-px were increased by 89%, 67% and 178%, respectively, after Se-supplementation for half year. In the UV treatment, the ratio of UDS was decreased from the mean values of 2. 47 in the control to 1. 61 (P<0. 05) in the Se-group, In the BaP treatment, furthermore, the elevated Se levels of 78% in serum and 83% in the hair accompanied with 56% high in activity of GSH-px were followed by the Se intake for one year, while the mean value of UDS was reduced from 2. 21 in the control to 1. 47(P< 0. 05) in the group of selenium tested. The blocking effects of UV irradiation and BaP treatment induced UDS of peripheral lymphocytes were showed in the Se-supplementation.展开更多

The initiation stage of carcinogenesis is a genotoxic process. 4-Octylphenol (alkylphenol), bisphenol A (plasticiser), coumestrol and genistein (phytoestrogens), 2,4-dichlorophe- noxyacetic acid and toxaphene (pesticides) and ethinylestradiol (synthetic hormone) were investigated for potential mutagencicity, DNA strand breakage, clastogenicity and DNA repair. Significant induction in the percentage of cells containing micronuclei was observed for all the EDCs. Toxaphene and coumestrol were mutagenic in the Ames assay. They also induced significant levels of unscheduled DNA synthesis and DNA strand breakage. Bisphenol A induced low level DNA strand breakage in HepG2 cells in the comet assay. The EDCs, with the exception of toxaphene, induced transcriptional activation in the yeast estrogen screen (YES) assay. They were potently oestrogenic in the mammalian based MVLN (transactivation) and E-SCREEN (proliferation) assays. This report on the transactivational, proliferative and genotoxic ability of the EDCs suggests that these chemicals may play a role in the etiology of male and female reproductive cancers.展开更多
