The results show that the microstructures consist of mainly α′′ martensite and a little β phase, and the grain size decreases obviously with increasing Si addition. When x = 0.2, small (Ti, Ta)3Si precipitates are formed at grain boundaries. With further increasing Si content, the amount of the precipitates gradually increases. The tensile and yield strength of Ti-55Ta-xSi alloys gradually increase with increasing Si addition, whereas elongation decreases. Ti-55Ta-0.1Si alloy exhibits the lowest elastic modulus and the best shape memory recoverable strain. It is revealed that the refinement of grain and the precipitation of (Ti, Ta)3Si phase are responsible to the changes of their mechanical and shape memory properties.展开更多

The electrochemical properties of the samples were examined using electrochemical techniques: such as open-circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), in two electrochemical media of artificial saliva and fluoridated artificial saliva (0.1%fluoride ions, F-) at 37 °C. Fluoride is commonly included in toothpastes, odontological gels and dental rinses to prevent dental caries and relieve dental sensitivity. The passive behaviour for all the titanium samples is observed for both solutions. The Ti60Ta alloy appears to possess superior corrosion resistance than the Ti12Mo and Cp-Ti in both electrochemical media.展开更多

The elemental distributions of C, Si and Ti at the interfacial reaction zone were investigated. It was found that the reaction zone occurs during the fabrication process and continuously grows at high temperature because the Si and C atoms diffuse from SiC fibers to the matrix and Ti atoms diffuse in the opposite direction. The growth of the reaction zone is diffusion controlled and the mechanism of the reaction can be described by a reactive diffusion model of solid-state growth of an AmBn layer between two elementary substances A and B.展开更多

The composition-dependent mechanical properties of bcc Ti-Ta-Fe system were experimentally determined by means of nanoindentation and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA) techniques. Moreover, the interdiffusion coefficients of Ti-Ta-Fe alloys at 1273 K were confirmed from the composition gradients of the ternary diffusion couples with the support of a pragmatic numerical inverse method. A composition-dependent database on the mechanical and diffusion properties of Ti-Ta-Fe alloys was carefully established and utilized for the discussion of the processability during the hot working. The results indicated that the content of Fe should be controlled for the Ti alloys with high hardness and low Young’s modulus.展开更多
