The composites were subjected to heat treatment at temperature of 650-950 ~C for 60 min. The results show that the heat treatment process results in a great enhancement of diffusion and microstructural transformation. The shear strength decreases as the treatment temperature increases. Heated at 850 ℃ or below, their shear strength decreases slowly as a result of the formation of TiC in the diffusion interaction layer; while at the temperature of 850 ℃ or above, the shear strength decreases obviously, which is the consequence of a large amount of Ti-Fe intermetaUics (Fe2Ti/FeTi) along with some TiC distributing continuously at diffusion reaction layer.

The results show that the average size of voids decreases while the amount of voids decreases after increasing to the maximum value with the increasing bonding time. The irregular void with a scraggly edge tends to an ellipse void with smooth surface and then changes to a tiny void with round shape. The grains across bonding interface occur at bonding time of 60 min. The shear strength of bond increases with increasing bonding time, and the highest shear strength of bond is 887.4 MPa at 60 min. The contribution of plastic deformation on the void closure and the increase of shear strength is significant even though the action time of plastic deformation is short.

The phase characterizations of substrates and fracture surfaces were conducted by XRD. The microstructures at metal/ceramic interfaces and fracture surfaces were observed via SEM in back scattered mode and second electron mode, respectively. Furthermore, an X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS) attached to SEM was used to study the elements diffusion in interfacial regions. The results reveal that diffusion and dissolution mechanism controlled reactive wetting takes place in the system in high temperature wetting. Results also show that the contact angles decrease with multiple carbide additions, and the effect of multiple carbide additions is stronger than that of single additions. The contact angle reaches the lowest value in the lowest TiC content case. The enhancement of the wettability is due to alloying procedure during high tempe展开更多

The shear strength of Ti-14Al-21Nb-3Mo-V alloy diffusion bonding joint under pressure of 12 MPa at 990℃ for 70 min was obtained to 797.6 MPa which approaches the base material strength. In addition, a short-time diffosion bonding process was studied in order to decrease the bonding cost. With the deformation of the specimens of 2.5% and the bonding temperature of 990℃ for 15 min, the bonding strength could reach 801 MPa.

The isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests were conducted at 900 °C for 1000 h and 120 cycles to check the oxidation resistance of the coating. The microstructure and phase transformation of the coating before and after the oxidation were studied by SEM, XRD and EPMA. The results indicate that the diffusion coating shows good oxidation resistance. The mass gain of the diffusion coating is only a quarter of that of bare alloy. After oxidation, the diffusion coating is degraded into three layers: an inner TiAl2 layer, a two-phase intermediate layer composed of a Ti(Al,Si)3 matrix and Si-rich precipitates, and a porous layer because of the inter-diffusion between the coating and substrate.

The results show that the friction coefficient mainly experiences two steady stages. The first steady stage corresponds to the Coulomb friction with material abrasion. The second steady stage corresponds to the stick friction with fully plastic flow. Moreover, the increasing rates of axial displacement, temperature and friction coefficient are obviously enhanced with the increase of rotation speed and axial pressure. It can also be found that the there exists rapid diffusion phenomenon in the Mg-Ti friction welding system. The large deformation activated diffusion coefficient is about 105 higher than that activated by thermal.

The microstructure evolution and growth mechanism of the Al-Ti DRZ were investigated. The result shows that the DRZ, the mixture of TiAl3 and Al, grows layer by layer along their chemical equilibrium zone. In the course, the growth interface moves toward the aluminum side. TiAl3 is the only new phase which forms earliest in the course of heat-treatment. The growth mechanism of the DRZ changes after the phase transition of titanium. Before the phase transition of titanium, the growth of the DRZ is controlled by the dissolution speed of the titanium to the molten aluminum, while after the phase transition of titanium, the growth is controlled by the chemical reaction speed of Al and Ti atoms, and consequently, its growth rate is greatly increased.
