However, curre...In plastic and reconstructive surgery there is an increasing demand for malleable implants to repair soft tissue congenital defects, or those resulting from aging, traumatic injury and tumour resection. However, currently available methods present a number of limitations such as volume loss over time and eventual resorption of the graft. Tissue engineering techniques provide promising therapeutic solutions to these inconveniences through development of engineered equivalents that best imitate adipose tissue, both structurally and functionally. Here we review the latest achievements in the human adipose tissue engineering field, with a focus on its regenerative potential for a number of clinical applications.展开更多
Objective Most acute promyelocytic leukemia cases are characterized by the PML-RARa fusion oncogene and low white cell counts in peripheral blood.Methods Based on the frequent overexpression of miR-125-family miRNAs i...Objective Most acute promyelocytic leukemia cases are characterized by the PML-RARa fusion oncogene and low white cell counts in peripheral blood.Methods Based on the frequent overexpression of miR-125-family miRNAs in acute promyelocytic leukemia,we examined the consequence of this phenomenon by using an inducible mouse model overexpressing human miR-125b.Results MiR-125b expression significantly accelerates PML-RARa-induced leukemogenesis,with the resultant induced leukemia being partially dependent on continued miR-125b overexpression.Interestingly,miR-125b expression led to low peripheral white cell counts to bone marrow blast percentage ratio,confirming the clinical observation in acute promyelocytic leukemia patients.Conclusion This study suggests that dysregulated miR-125b expression is actively involved in disease progression and pathophysiology of acute promyelocytic leukemia,indicating that targeting miR-125b may represent a new therapeutic option for acute promyelocytic leukemia.展开更多
This study investigated the effects of the herbal compounds Tribulus terrestris(TT),Avena sativa(AS),white ginseng(WG),and a triple combination(TC)powder on the serum total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein choleste...This study investigated the effects of the herbal compounds Tribulus terrestris(TT),Avena sativa(AS),white ginseng(WG),and a triple combination(TC)powder on the serum total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),triglyceride,and the tibial bone mineral density(BMD)levels in rats fed a high-cholesterol diet.This study comprised Group I(normal pellet feed),Group II(pellet feed with 2%cholesterol),Group III(2%cholesterol plus 15%TT),Group IV(2%cholesterol plus 7.5%AS),Group V(2%cholesterol plus 5%WG)and Group VI(2%cholesterol plus 7.5 TT%+3.75%AS,2.5%WG).The serum total cholesterol,LDL-C,HDL-C,triglyceride,and tibial BMD(g/cm2)levels were measured.Significant decrease in the serum HDL-C levels in Group II than Group I,and significant increase in the serum LDL-C levels in Group II than Groups I and VI were determined.The tibial BMD levels were significantly lower in Groups II and IV than Group I.It was determined that WG and TC significantly prevented the serum total cholesterol increase;TC significantly prevented the serum LDL-C increase;and TT,WG,and TC were non-significantly effective in the improvement of tibial BMD levels.展开更多
Objective:To explore the effect of Renshen Yangrong Decoction(人参养荣汤,RYD) in protecting bone marrow from radiation injury.Methods:One hundred and eighty Kuming mice were subjected to the three tests for anti-r...Objective:To explore the effect of Renshen Yangrong Decoction(人参养荣汤,RYD) in protecting bone marrow from radiation injury.Methods:One hundred and eighty Kuming mice were subjected to the three tests for anti-radiation injury effect evaluation,i.e.the test of peripheral white blood cell(WBC) count, the test of bone marrow nucleated cell count,and the bone marrow micronucleus test,using 60 mice for each test.The mice in each test were divided into 6 groups:the blank control group,the model control group,the positive control group treated by Shiyiwei Shenqi Tablet(十一味参芪片,1.0 g/kg),and three RYD groups treated with high(42.0 g/kg),moderate(21.0 g/kg),and low(10.5 g/kg) doses of crude drugs of RYD,with 10 mice in each group.The treatment was given by gastrogavage perfusion continuously for 7-14 days before mice received ^(60)Co-γray radiation and continued until the end of the experiment.The body weights of the mice were monitored,the changes in peripheral WBC and bone marrow nucleated cells were counted,and the variation in bone marrow micronucleated cells was observed on the respective appointed days.Results:A significant decrease in body weight,peripheral WBC count,and bone marrow nucleated cell count,as well as marked changes in bone marrow micronucleated cells were observed in the mice after radiation,indicating that the radiation injury model was successfully established.As compared with the model control group,the decrease in body weight,peripheral WBC count,and bone marrow nucleated cell count,as well as the increase in bone marrow micronucleus cell count in the high dosage RYD treated group were obviously inhibited or lessened (P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion:RYD showed obvious protective effect in mice with bone marrow injury induced by radiation.展开更多
